Amp on backseat and other "Stg 1" photos

Well, this weekend I started on my audio system in what I will call stage 1. I dynamated all four dours and ran power wires with rca and speaker wire. I only have one channel running of one amp at this time. Was curious how I would like the the sound with spkrs only in the front doors. I think I am gonna put some mid fill woofers in the back doors soon. Anyhow, enjoy the picture show.

Drivers door with all wires/plastic/spkrs removed. There are about 29 holes in the panel that I needed to keep track of. I used tooth picks broken in half to mark the holes that I came back and trimmed around after installation of Dynamat. Its very time consuming, but I was rather impressed with the results never having done this before.

Close up of speaker. I put the speakers in baffles on top of the dynamat to protect them from dust and water that may get in the panels from offroad.

Here is a pic of the amp mounted to the back of the seat with power and RCA wires coming out. Unfortunately, I cut the crap out of my finger on the sheet metal underneath the fabric backer cover so I didn't take any pics of the wire underneath and how I routed it (I got distracted with the blood and all ). Anyway, I removed the fabric panel and was able to fish the power/grnd wires under the steel of the seat frame and then out to where the amp was. I had to trim a area open in the steel with my dremel about a 1/4" to give more room for both wires to come out. I used some thick rubber trim molding to put on the steel edges so that it does not cut the insulation of the wires with vibration. The rca/spkrs wires fit on top of the steel frame and underneath the fabric cover because the steel seat back has grooves that they fit in. I then cut the holes in the cover for the wires to come out. All wires tuck under the back are not visible except the power and ground witch I had to trim a corner off to allow it the seat to move from upright to flat position. Other than that, it works perfect and here is the pics.

At the rear door sill on driver side, I used the dremel again to grind a clean spot for the grnd connection.

I used the driver side sill to run the power wire and the passenger sill to run RCA and spkr wire.

Since I was doing all this work, I ran an extra RCA that I am not using now as I am sure I will be adding another channel soon.

Here is the corner I had to trim for the power wires.

And here is the final result. I used self taping sheet metal screws to attach the amp to the steel frame of the backseat. Its on there pretty good, normal off road it will be fine. But I'm gonna work on something a little better and maybe add rubber isolation grommets to limit vibration.

Those pics would be great in a Toyota manual...step one: remove everything...step two: put it all back Hey I was wondering on you Sirius tuner did you wire it up to 12V constant like the directions said? I have basically the same tuner for my Alpine HU and wired it to the battery lead off the radio harness.

I did the same as you. Used a pinch splice on the battery lead and ran the wire down to where you see the tuner underneath the center console. The com wire runs to passenger door sill and around the glove box area. In that pic, extra wire length is zip tied to the cross bar.

That's alot of work for 1 relatively small amp. Looks great though.

I'd have left that folding chair in the passenger's side there for a little while. See what kind of looks you get from people or friends who wanna ride with you.

Yeah, that amp is just temporary. I really just wanted to get the wiring done and dynamat. The power wire is a 4 guage , I plan on installing a good 4ch. Im probably going to be going with some type of marine grade amps. I havent made up my mind on final speakers and setup either. Im debating selling my AVN 5435 and sat tuner to a cousin that is getting a 4runner, so that I can pick up the new AVN 6610 with the sirius trafic unit.

Im gonna get real stupid with other things too. A friend at work introduced me to this mad scientist audio guy. He's a sound engineer that designs A/V systems for clubs, casino's and Ive been talking to him. He is an offroad enthusiast also and is gonna help me with ideas on bullet proofing it as much as possible with the degree of offroad "prerunning" abuse in mind. Dual batteries, alternator, breakers and emergency power kill that will shut off power in the event of roll or some other accident).

I just bought some new Elemental Design component speakers, 6.5" subs for the rear door panels and an amp to power it all. Everything should be here tomorrow. Mind helping me out getting it installed? Pizza and beer on me!!! :beer:

Thanks J, I try my best in all that I do. Plus, to me this stuff is a lot of fun:biggrin2: . I am selling my stereo stuff, just hadn't decided to sell the speakers and that's an old amp I had sitting around. Always gotta have a spare.

I would be happy to help you out with your stereo, but this weekend I'm pretty booked. I'm going to Demello sat morning and leaving my truck there to get sliders put on while my buddy and I go up to Allied and spitball some ideas about my rear and his Tacoma. Sunday I am planning on doing some trail running. Next weekend? Maybe we can do another meet and greet but combine your stereo install with some brain storming on lifts/audio?

Cause to tell the truth, I'm having some issues with my speaker setup. Even with all that dynamat, I am getting some annoying vibration in the doors at volume. It seems to be coming from the door handle parts and possible the sheet metal of the window components. I'm figuring that it is due in combination to too much power in the doors causing "cavitation"? and the mild beatings I have given it off road. The amp is pushing about 150 watts on a 3ohm speaker load. I'm prepared to live with the noise at high volume but am open to suggestions.

Anyways, get back to me on the install. And anyone else in the So Cal area that may be interested in coming by, let me know. We can do a little run in the hills by my house also.

I still need to pick up all my wires/cables, amp kit and some dynamat, so the extra time will be good.
