amp placement

I have 06 sr5 that has the third row. I am at a loss for where to put the amps. I have two jl amps slash series. I also have heated seats so I think there are extra wires under the front seats. I was told by one person that the amps will fit under the front seats but it doesn't appear that way and I would worry about the wires touching the amp. Has anyone had any solutions of where to put the amps with the 3rd row option or if they will fit under the front seats.

Thanks in advance.

There aren't many places for amps in a 4th Gen. I have a couple bigger amps and had to mount them on the back of the 2nd row seats. Obviously with the 3rd row, you may not want to put them there. I've seen people use the storage compartment in the rear. I'm not sure your amps would fit there. (mine wouldn't). I wouldn't suggest mounting an amp under the front seat unless your amp is very low profile, otherwise it will rub the bottom of the seat. There's not much room under the seats anyway. You may try fabricating an amp rack or incorporating it into your subwoofer enclosure. You can do just about anything with fiberglass. Good luck.

its possible to fit the jl audio slash amps under the seat, i have 2 300/2 and i put each one under each seat, fits fine, just take the seat out to install, also i have an 07 sport, no heated seats, but im sure itll fit.

Thanks for the info, I'll have to take the seat out to see what the deal is with the heated seats. maybe I can zip tie some wire looms out of the way.

yea, updates? i put mine behind the interior panel by the rear storage compart ment on the passenger side if you remove the storage box, then the panel, theres plenty of room to mount a piece of plywood, & bolt an amp to. you will just have to cut a small section of 1 end off the removable box off.

Sorry went out of town for the long weekend. I will tackle it this weekend hopefully. When I feel under the seat though it feels like the wires are touching the floorboard so I am not very confident about putting the amps under the seats. I've contemplated selling the amps and getting the new jl amps that are compact size.

those new jl amps, are class d amp, mainly its for power, it will not give u good sound quality like a regular clas a/b amp, i wouldnt recommend them, i would still use the 300/4, raise the seat up and see if any wires are in the way? , i have my seat all the way down and dont have any problem with the jl amp there.

If you're referring to the new JL HD amps (750/1 & 600/4), I wouldn't pass judgement before you hear them. Many people are giving them praises saying that they sound very good compared to the Slash amps. Yes the full range Class D's haven't got the best reviews in SQ, but that was basically from people who had the Alpine PDX's and other initial full range Class D's.

Ok, stereo is done, I have a 500/1 under the driver seat and a 300/4 under the passenger seat. Even with the heated seats they fit no problem. (very glad about that.) The subs take up most of the area behind the third row but the box is as high as the bottom of the window and as wide as the wheel wells. I did this so when the third row seats are out I can move the box up behind the second row seats. Sounds good.

Yes, pics! Not to hijack this thread but I'm considering replacing my 4channel and sub amps with the PDX-5 or the new JL HD 5channel amp and you're saying it would fit under my driver seat? I too currently have my amps mounted behind my second row seats...want to get them out of there for when we lay the seats down for moving things.

How did you secure them under your seats?

aren't there air vents under the seats? looks like that on my 2006 4runner. are you just mounting on top of them?

they just bolt down with screws. The amps are mounted on top of the air vents. hopefully that will never be an issue. I still need to get pics up.
