Amp temperature range?

Temperature wise, from both the summer heat and heat while using the amp, would it be safe to install a Alpine MRV-F450 (5-channel amp) in the rear panel where the factory sub & amp was located?

The only source of ventilation would be through the plastic at the factory speaker holes. Is this okay? Should I worry about it at all?

NOTE: I live in Texas and most summers are 95 to 105 for 2-3 months at a time.

I am contemplating the same thing, Here is Southern CA its gets really warm. I has planning on adding a small fan in there and creating a vent. But not yet sure where to place them. I will probably wait until the heat dies down before I attempt the install though.

I'll ask this another way... What is the maximum temperature any amp could consistently run at before failure?

Well I wouldn't be worried about actually damaging your equipment, pretty much any good amp you buy will have a thermo protection circuit built in.

My friend had a sub in his car, it was an older car that had a trunk that wasn't really vented at all. There was also no padding or anything, just a little felt on some plastic on the bottom and bare metal everywhere else. He mounted the amp to the back of the truck there, and it would shut off quite often from overheating. We built some fans for it which helped a lot, but it would still shut down every once in a while. Being in Arizona, its even hotter here than it is there it sounds. I would say do it, maybe put a fan there, but remember the factory JBL system comes with an amp right there. I wouldn't be too worried about doing it, the worst that could happen is it shuts down sometimes from heat - at least nothing was damaged. If it does it a lot, look into some other cooling.

Cool thanks Vortec4800. That's what I needed to hear, at least to give it a try. I thought about the factory amp being back there too however that little piece of crap isn't going to be putting out anywhere close to the amount of heat the Alpine will be.

Anyway I'll post pics when finished....i'm going to take out the factory sub box & amp and then make a custom bracket for the new (large) amp to mount on.

PS if anyone knows the size of the small rear overhead speakers please share. I'll figure it out as soon as I take everything apart but I'd like to know the size before then in possible.

IIRC They're 3". That's only based off of memory, and I never actually measured it so you should probably ignore this post anyway...
