Amps Under Seats of an 02'?

I'd like to put amps under each of the front seats of a 2002
4 Runner. However, in the floor below the passenger seat there's a round cut out with what looks like a fan vent, although I can't really see if it contains a fan or not. Does anyone know what this thing is, and will it create problems if I put an amp over it? Thanks.

its the vents for the rear heater, of course.

i would put them on the back of the rear seats in the cargo area.

I put an amp under the driver seat of my 2000 with out any problems. My rear floor defrost is closer to the center console so i could put an amp under either seat.

your 2000 doesnt have the rear heater though... which is bad for the amp to be on/near.

The vents for the rear seat passengers are on the center console, on the end aimed towards the feet of the rear passengers. The amp is under the driver seat, a few inches in frront of the vents and the vents are not pointed at the amp. I think it's safe.

hmm, ill take a look under my seats again, but from what i saw before my amp's install, it didnt look like a good idea.

I am just about to install my stereo in my 99 SR5 but am stuck on where to mount the 2 amps. I have been considering one under each seat because of the added security and that I plan to do alot of camping and want to have a nice flat surface when I put the back seats down (possibly going to be sleeping there ).

I am however worried about air flow (had problems with my PPI overheating when in a tight space) and wonder if anyone has other options... Is there room to be made behind the side panels in the cargo area???? just a thought as I have seen 4th gen ones have their stock amps in there...

Any suggestions would be great.

i have one of mine mounted on the sub box itself in the back, so if i need the room i can take the whole thing completely out. and im going to mount the other one when i get it under the drivers seat. theres room, not much room though, just measure what you plan on getting first before you do it.

I am in exactly the same position - I have a 99 SR5 that I am looking to install a new system in. I have the rear heater (where the fan occupies the space under the passenger seat) and I would rather not have to mount the amp directly to the back of the seat for cargo/camping reasons.

What did you end up doing here?
