I used to use Mobil 1 in my 1993 T-Bird and loved it. I used to change the oil every 5,000 miles and never had to put even an ounce of oil between intervals. The best part was that I never noticed any sludge on the inside portion of the oil cap.
On my 2000 4Runner, my local oil change place only sold Penzoil synthetic. I had similar results with it.
I have been looking at Amsoil now for quite a while. In fact, I heard about it about 15 years ago but never bought any. I have reviewed the Amsoil website and it appears impressive. Granted, everyone will pound their chest for their product, but I seem to believe their literature.
Do any of you use Amsoil in your 4Runners? I'm planning on sticking with 5w-30. Amsoil says that their intervals are 25,000 miles. My 2005 BMW 545i has a 15,000 mile interval, but even Amsoil says to stick with BMW's oil (which I am almost certain must be made by Castrol).
Anyhow, I'll try the Amsoil and see how the viscocity holds up, but what about oil filters? Does Amsoil have oil filters specifically for an 05 with the 4.7liter V8?
Your comments would be appreciated.
