Hit a milestone this past weekend:

In honor of the occasion, she got a clay/wax job:

Bought her in late 2001 with 85k, and she has taken me on many adventures. Original engine (replaced cracked heads earlier this year) and transmission, hopefully I'll be back here creating another thread for the half mil mark.

Alabama woods are lovely, dark and deep.
She has promises to keep.


She looks really clean for 400k miles! I would never have guessed that if I just looked at the truck.
 
You definitely do a good job keeping her clean. I see so many that look like crap but are at or less than 200K. I'll hit that mark soon and mine is still very nice, but I'm feeling like my seat is wearing out some.
 
That is outstanding !

It is a testament to the quality of the 4Runner and a lesson for anyone buying a 3rd Gen. This is why I didn't even blink at buying one with 198,000 on the clock.

Looks great. Definitely not surprised by the mileage. We'll see you on here at the 500K mark. Keep up with your maintenance and you'll see a million miles.
 
A lot of cars could go 400k with new heads and trans. Our shortblocks are tanks. Im hoping for that on original long block and trans. We will see how the hope works out.

I hit 300K this past spring and expect to get to the 400K before getting rid of mine. Some people are a bit amused when I say I drove it on a 3,000 mile trip with 300K on it and had no issues.

I get the same looks when I tell people my truck has 386,000 miles on it with original engine and transmission. They usually whistle and say something about how it must be well maintained. At which point I laugh and tell them the PO neglected the truck and drove it until the passenger wheel fell off (LBJ failed) then gave it to me. That was like 25,000 miles ago.

I just got in this morning after doing a 1500 mile run up and down along the west coast.

Only issue was was a bad lockup solenoid in the tranny. Threw some solenoid codes again and the torque converter kept locking/unlocking at highway speeds for the last 400 miles. While annoying as hell, my fuel mileage was great — despite being loaded down with 5 people and all our gear.

If my truck catastrophicly failed today, I would be looking for another 3rd gen tomorrow.

Perhaps, but you have to wonder how the rest of the vehicle would hold up. What's as amazing as reaching the 400k mark is the fact that every single thing on my truck still works. Cruise control, original sunroof/motor (never leaked), power seats and windows, 4WD (which I only occasionally use), etc...
I'm fortunate that I don't have to deal with rust like a lot of you guys, and the undercarriage still looks great for the age/mileage.

I've had a few of the common issues that we see on here, but they were all easily addressed. I honestly wouldn't think twice about hopping in it tomorrow and driving anywhere in the country.

Im in CO, no rust here. Im very surprised everything around the truck still works. Im in different boat. Very well taken care of with 260k miles.

All that stuff you mention is failing on mine. Window motors slow, sunroof dont work, HVAC controls starting to fail, rear window buttons dont work, driver seat bolts tore from floor pan, driver seat right hinge broke and a lot of little stuff starting to fail.

So with all that to me normal stuff failing im hoping the main stuff stays together like, short block, heads, trans, xcase and diffs. All that other stuff I can fix easily and live with.

Thats awesome. Goes to show how good Toyota quality is. I had the pink milkshake around 200K and still have original tranny and engine 100K+ later.

What app is that you are using to track fuel mileage? Curious what else that app does.
