Android Auto

Anyone else thinks that Android Auto is a POS.

1- phone app acts up, sometimes it does not connect . and when you are on the phone, you can not find the button to disconnect, end.
2- youtube music says to upgrade, and even with premium still has message, Googled it and many people have issues.

The only good thing that I see is Google maps. I rather use the phone over bluetooth for phone and music, much better outcome.

I also had issues with Andoird Auto on Volvo XC90 with similar issues.

Anyone tried updating their Entertainment firmware and had better luck?

Try Entune for a while and see if that doesn't make Android Auto seem like a miracle.

Can't comment on the new Toyota offered version of Android Auto, but some of the 'aftermarket' brands, .... Sony, Alpine, Kenwood, or Pioneer are very nice.

I have 2018 TRD Off Road with Toyota factory installed audio, navigation, bluetooth, yada, yada, whatever. The hardware is manufactured by Pioneer but I'm uncertain whether Toyota or Pioneer designed the user controls. The hardware sounds great, however the User Interface ... the controls, menu, touch screen, and the process to update software or firmware ...are all inferior compared to consumer products that are widely available.

Toyota could have bought an iPhone or Android phone and glued it to the dashboard. That would have worked better and improved customer satisfaction. Of course, that would look pretty crappy. (;<)

Suggest you complain to local Toyota dealer. If they don't help, then write a concise polite letter to the Toyota region ( aka zone manager) asking for solution or equipment replacement.

I think Toyota and most vehicle manufacturer's Android Auto implementations are misguided. It seems they want to make it a one time implementation and move on without supporting upgrades or changes to it. Are they expecting that Android will remain static? Also, the service model that car manufacturers use to update firmware by having the users go to the dealership and have the dealer techs do the upgrade, does not lend to a flexible platform. As Android Auto continues to evolve and change, if the manufacturers are not committed to supporting it, the OEM Head Units will have a lot of issues and become obsolete relatively quickly.

Decided to give it a try.
Deleted the phone app and have no plans to ever try it again.

Get your software updated. Mine works fine and yes I've had other AA setups, Kenwood, Ford Sync, and Alpine. Kenwood was the best by 4runner is not bad

Agreed.

it is overrated. Full of bugs from both ends (the phone and the car system).

I use AA in my 20' and have 0 issues. Now, I don't use Youtube Music, I just use Google Music instead.
I have the app installed but never opened the app itself, just ran though the setting when prompted once plugged into vehicle and never messed with it again. If I try to open the app from my phone it wants me to log in and set up once again.
