Andy Mod 2.0?

ok so ive been looking at this mod for a while now and ive always been confused whether i could do this mod myself or not...

ok so the reason im unsure is mine came factory with a "trac off" button but ive noticed that i have to engage it when i am at a complete stop and it will turn the traction back on automatically after i pass 30 mph. So can i still do this mod in place of the factory one?

As long as you leave the factory switch set to 'on', this mod should work just fine.

ok kool, looks like i guess ill be doing this soon then.., should i keep the "trac off" button in there and add another switch or just replace it with a switch?

also been wondering do u guys typically drive with this on and just engage it to the off position when wheeling?
 
by the fact that it re-enables at 30 mph, i'm guessing it is more complicated than just a switch, something is plugged in the ECU or something. So I don't know if you even can just strait up replace the switch. Most you can do is just wire in a bypass switch on the line that doesn't have the ability to be overridden by the car.

I usually drive with my trac and vsc on. I just turn it off when I want to do some drifting down the winding dirt road that leads to my house. Especially after it rains :D (like yesterday!). I did the mod this summer so I have yet to use my switch in the winter.
 
thats not cool. i have an 02 and i dont have a factory trac off.....i had to do the andy mod 2.0. 5 relays later it works great well worth the time and effort but it was alot of time an effort.
 
Skydivedude has a 2WD so I'm pretty sure that the 4WD and 2WD have different ECU's so the AndyMod would need to be approached differently probably
 
ya... well i think it might just be too much effort since it might mess things up and since i cant get a definite answer ill prob just have to skip this mod.
 
I'd do it if it were me. I don't see any harm in installing the andymod 2.0 on your 4Runner. You're just breaking current in the wiring thus, deactivating trac. Now if you're refering to this andymod 2.0, it only takes a few mins to install: AndyMod 2.0. ABS Remains Active. - YotaTech Forums. Although, the main purpose for installing either of the andymods is to simply deactivate VSC & TRAC while in 4WD. VSC is such a pain while in 4wd on road and off road...at least in the situations I've been in.

I tend to refer to the mod Twitchee2 installed, as the Bagel Mod (simply due to the complexity of it compared to the original andymod): New Improved ANDY MOD - Real TRAC OFF Switch - YotaTech Forums

Yes, as KellyJ said, skydivingdude has a factory "trac off" switch b/c his 4Runner is 2wd. 4wd 4Runners did not have this option.

right i knew that... yes i did the bagel mod. i love it. VSC on and off on the fly. actually lets you screw around in 2wd. i have found TRAC works wonders in 2wd. acts almost like a LSD if your just crawling, let the comp do its work and power gets sent to the ground. I have yet to use it in snow but i think it will be really nice.
 
sorry to bring this thread back, i know it's old but I just bought that exact switch pictured above, i'm going to be doing the Andy mod 2.0 when it warms up a little.
I just read from someone with an older 4runner that tried this button, but it didn't quite work because it doesn't have a permanent off/on setting. So basically i'd have to hold the button in to make it function.

Can anybody direct me to a thread where i can make it work or if they have had experience with it? if not... I have a tracoff button for sale :)
 
That must be a momentary switch that toggles something in the 2WD ECU. You might find a toggling relay or something to use it but I'd guess it's more trouble and expense than it's worth. I just bought a fog light switch from the dealer (about $12 I think).
 
yeah i might do that, that's pretty cheap for something from the dealer. I wish this one worked easier, it fits so flush! anyway thanks man!

hey guys. so I decided to tackle the Andy mod 2.0 today. I'm following the diagram in the yotatech write up. I pulled the wires (2nd one from the top) and do not see a red wire with a black tracer.

in fact the only red wire I see that has the black tracer is on the lowest connector. Am i missing something?

If you have no locker or limited slip only one wheel will spin if the rear tires lose traction. The factory traction aids use the brakes to keep the wheel from spinning, which is why you can't use it to go through mud or any obstacle where you would need to spin the tires.

Ahh. I just noticed the other week when I went offroad through mud that when I do not turn on the andymod, i only get mud on one side of my truck, when I turn on my andymod switch, i get mud flung up on both sides. I see mud flinging up on both sides.
 
so something weird is going on. I got everything connected and the switch wont turn it everything back on. It's the fog light switch from the dealership. it has 2 terminals on the back any ideas?

I did the Andy Mod and when flipping the switch I see that VSC is disabled. To turn this back on the switch has to be flipped to original position and the Runner turned off and back on.

It only takes a momentary break in the wire to disable so I used a relay with a VSC off switch from a camry. Hold the switch and the relay momentarily breaks the connection and VSC off.
