So I decided to do a little night 4Wheelin on my way home from work (I find it relaxing and diverting, eases the nerves, some folks don't understand!). So I've had enough after about 45 min and am heading out when I see this truck possibly a Tundra 2009ish barreling down on me. Fortunately he was not a cop nor was he able to follow the obstacles i just went through. I decided to get the heck out of there in case they were drunk or bullies. Well once I got on the road I looked over at him and he's telling me to get the F*** outa here! Now this fun little obstacle course is not restricted nor are there any signs. There are some neighborhoods bout 1/4 mile to the north and south but nothing near. Have any of you experienced this nonsense? It really got me thinking cause if I would have been by myself and the guy came about 10 min earlier and wanted to rough me up, well I would have had to use my 5cell mag light on him but really is it necessary to be so rude when there are no signs keeping folks out? What are ya'lls thoughts? Has this ever happened to any of you? If so what did you do or what happened? I would like to know so in case it happens again I can be ready...:50cal:
You could always open carry.
Anyway, I'm sure you guys saw Deliverance before. I bet they wish they carried.
Hey,
I'm Bryan. I live in Grapevine. I have not run into problems like that yet, but it has been a big concern of mine because, as you know there are not very many places around DFW for us to go off roading.
I recently was able to get our 91 T4R running, its our first 4x4 we have ever owned, all though I'm not new to off roading because I grew up in ALASKA, but in Alaska it's a lot easier to go off the road and not piss anyone off or destroy the land, but down here in DFW I am searching for places to go off roading where I can do it responsibly.
If you come across anyplace in our area please let me know, and if i find something I'll pass it on as well.
Glad to see another DFW 4Runner owner.
Bryan
Unless you are deep in meth lab or bear country I see little reason to pack heat. There's more chance of escalating a situation than anything else. Besides - carrying is just a pain in the butt all round.
I was a pretty darn good competition shooter back in the day - but I'm quite content to leave the carrying to law enforcement.
My rule of thumb is to only go off roading when I'm absolutely certain I'm allowed to do so and have an invitation from the landowner...and I take a buddy.
Soooooo.....you gonna pull a piece because someone gets in your face and tells you to get the F outta here??? Seriously?
Even if you so much as display a weapon under those circumstances your gonna be in deep doodoo.
Hey bigbsvo!
Thanks for the response I did find one place that's on my way home from work...pretty cool there are lot's of trails and seems to be no concearn to anyone. They are minor but there is one steep decent and climb through the a creek. If anyone has any info on this property let me know but I've stopped by there 3 times on my way home from work with no problems...just did some upgrades so might take it out soon...

on scale of 1 to 10 i give it a 6 or 7...still looking for more places...
This is why I am always packing heat !! My Baretta 9mm w/ 17 rounds+extra clips !! Also a Walther PPK .380 for back up !!
public property they dump dirt there when working on roads. I've seen others there Wheelin. Just some random angry guy did not like folks wheeling i guess. :ybrick:
That gun doesnt use clips.
Im all for guns, but agree with the few in this thread, that think this was not a scenario that called for one. Too many people have a false sense of security by carrying, and it definitely shouldnt be something you ever WANT to use.
The actual issue I see is that you were illegally offroading to begin with. Evidence of that is when you got scared that it may be a cop.
Look, I don't want to stand on my soap box and preach here, but we lose thousand of trails every year because of guys who wheel where they shouldn't wheel. Plain and simple is that YOU were wrong to be doing it to begin with, and unless you know damn well that its legal or have permission, then stay the hell out. You are portraying a bad image of the sport and even posting this shows that you lack in judgement. Period.
Wheel where its legal and where its posted that you can wheel. IMO, the guy in the Tundra asking you to leave was the only responsible one in the situation.
i totally agree with you. we have lots of land that have been closed off because of people destroying the land and the equipment. now i cant get to my favorite hunting spot because people were tearing up the land for no reason. there is a gate there and no motorized vehicles are allowed plus they have done that to more areas. i respect the land because i want to be able to use it. i always 4wheel where it is legal. and i always leave the trails cleaner than before i got there. my 4wheel club is real strict on this and if you get caught once you get warned and the second time your out. and the reason is because i want to be able to go 4wheeling and hunting where its legal to without worrying that my spots aren't going to be blocked off.The actual issue I see is that you were illegally offroading to begin with. Evidence of that is when you got scared that it may be a cop.

it all goes back go the basic childhood rule, if it's not yours, don't touch it! I don't even know what the argument has been about here. the op was wrong to begin with. he must be a highschooler or something judging from his complete lack of common sense.
I don't know the laws in Texas or Colorado...but here in AZ "trails" are considered open unless noted or posted closed. Also, unless the land owner has fencing up or has posted signs that you are entering private property, a restricted area, or a permitted area, you'd be allowed in the area legally (as long as you've satisfied the restriction or permit). If a private property owner wants people to stay out of an area, they post a no trespassing sign....just as the govt does with trust land...as does the BLM.
People like you cause the rest of us problems. If it isn't your property or a place set aside for off-roading stay out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have about 1,200 feet along a public HWY. In the past the HWY dept has stored gravel, dumped dirt or gotten dirt (they dig you a pond for "free"). Just because the HWY dept is using it doesn't mean you have full access to it. The center median in many highways is very wide, that doesn’t mean you can wheel there either.
