Annoying beep while in 4wheel lo

When I put my new 4runner in 4wheel drive lo, a very annoying beeping sound comes on and won't stop. Am I doing something wrong or is this the way it was designed?

The beep indicates the system is NOT engaged... check the owners manual and ensure you're following the correct procedure for engaging 4LO.

The heck w/ looking it up:

TO get into 4lo:
1. stop the vehicle
2. put vehicle in neutral
3. then switch to 4lo
4. wait until 4lo light becomes solid (takes a few seconds)
when solid - you're in 4lo

To unlock do the same as getting into 4lo

I did the very same thing at first! I'm still getting used to our 4Runner being smarter than I am.

Oh good, I was doing it wrong

I used to have a Z71 off road truck and now I remember having to do something special like that.

Ok, thanks Good Times that makes sense.

I'm going to have to get the computer re-flashed to get rid of some of these other nuisances. Nice truck but some of the sounds can drive you crazy.
