So I keep going back and forth between lifts. At first I was dead set on the OME 3" 881 fronts/890 rears, but after reading on here and emailing Steve from Sanoran Steel I was going to do the 7.2 from them. This is my daily driver and 90% will be on road driving so I'm having a hard time dropping almost $1300 on the SS 7.2 kit. I'm also looking at the Toytec ultimate lift kit, but its $1000 plus shipping. What do you guys think?
Well, the SS 7.2 comes with OME 890's, so the rear is the same as the 3" OME except for the shocks and they aren't going to make a huge difference (especially not a $600 difference). The 3" OME kit will be just as capable as a SS 7.2, but for about 60% of the price.
All the other extra stuff that the 7.2 comes with like the adjustable panhard, ext. brake line, new bump stops, e-brake bracket, etc.. are all unnecessary for only 3" of lift. That stuff is only
needed for tall lift coils like LCs and even then lots of people who run LCs find much cheaper alternatives to take care of these little things - like bending the e-brake bracket instead of buying a new special one. Those little things (the ones that make this otherwise mild lift waaaaay more expensive) aren't bad to have, and they're more necessary with the system 1.2, but your wasting money on creature comforts with the 7.2 IMO.
You say it's 90% street so I don't think I'd get the Toytec Ultimate if I were you. I am 90% off road and love my OME setup. Do you think you can really justify an extra $250 seeing as that you don't go off road much? Would you honestly even be able to tell the difference in capability?
The way I see it is, the OME is by far the best bang for your buck. The SS 7.2 is kinda lame IMO - I say that only because if you're gonna lift it, you could do it way better with the 1.2 kit for the same price. You'll wish you had down the road anyways. The Ultimate kit is in-between, but if it were me, I'd get the OMEs, save some cash, and be happy for a long time... or save up a little more, go for the best kit available - the SS 1.2, and be happy for a long time.
