Another 4 Runner repeat owner!!

Okay so this will be 4 Runner 3 since the early 90's. I had a Gen 2, Gen 3, and now Gen 4. I just picked up a Silver 07 Sport V6 2X. I got a great deal with the rebate and couldn't pass it up. I was driving an 06 Tacoma and just decided to ditch the truck for a SUV.

I had some concerns though and would like to hear your thoughts. Being that it was one of the last 07's I didn't have many choices. Upon inspection there were some things that needed addressing. There were some minor scratches in the cladding that look like they can be buffed out. My figernail does not catch on them. However there is a 3 inch scratch on the tailgate that does catch my fingernail but the service writer said they have an outside company that can repair any paint damage to like new condition. Oh and there is a small ding above the drivers door handle that I'm sure the paint/pdr guy can get out.

I was a little disappointed when I did the fine tooth comb test but was told it would all be "taken care of". I don't think I've ever picked up a new car without something that needed followup. I just hope they don't screw it up and if they do what recourse do I have? I really don't want the new car payment with used car features....

Why didn't you refuse to take delivery until AFTER they fixed those issues? Now you're at the mercy of the dealer. I hope they take care of you... but I'm not sure how they could possible fix the deep scratch that you can catch with your fingernail, unless they repaint the panel. Hopefully they don't just take the clearcoat down to nothing to "repair" the scratch!

Well, anyway, congrats on the new 4Runner and I hope you enjoy it.

Good point. It's buyer be where I guess. I should have gone over it more carefully. If they fix it I'm cool, my concern is what if it's a botch job? Can I get out of it? Call Toyota Corp and tell them the repair was not satisfactory? I do have the repairs on the due bill so I have something in writting saying they WILL fix it.

I'm pretty sure the dealer will do whatever it takes to make you happy, even if that means repainting the vehicle (or at least the tailgate and other areas you identified as a problem.

I wouldn't lose too much sleep over it just yet...give the dealer a chance to make it right.
