Another 4runner broken into...

Well I had my car parked in a lot off I-70 here in Colorado while i was skiing yesterday. Unfortunately when i returned i noticed that the passenger side rear door window was down. My stomach immediately dropped. It obviously wasnt "down," it was shattered all over the inside of my runner. There were a couple other cars in the lot that were broken into as well. I called the police and they came out to do their report thing.

Here is what they made off with,

my 2 12" MTX subs and amp:

They also got my brand new tool box with all the tools i just got for christmas. (At least $300 worth of tools).

As i walked up to the car this was the sight:

They must have used some sort of pry bar to break the window:

They did take finger prints all over my car and the other cars and actually got quite a few different ones. you can see a little bit of the finger print that didnt get pulled up when they removed the print. If any print is going to work it will be this one. Here is what was left from the finger print on the lock on the door after they removed it:

I'm not really planning on seeing my stuff again, but I'm gunna keep my fingers crossed.

My Insurance does not cover this, so I'll be having to replace the window on my own dime. I got an appointment to get it replaced tomorrow for $200. I'll have to talk to the home insurance people to see if they might cover what was stolen inside the vehicle.

Thankfully they didnt take the CD deck, CB, or my co2 setup. They could have made off with a lot more... but needless to say I'm pretty pissed! :redbrick:

Wow...thats sad....and makes me angry big time!...this is what makes me think twice before I equip/upgrade my runner with the multimedia that I really want.

Hope they find out who did it.

Your homeowners policy should cover what was stolen from your vehicle - they consider that burglary of a vehicle and is covered just like burglary of a habitation. I am sure there is a deductible, but I guess anything is better than nothing. My car has been broken into many years ago, and it is really aggravating that there are stupid people out there who do that. I hope the police are able to match the prints and catch the thugs, ....., you may never see your tools and speakers again though. Good luck.

I hate that you're having to go through this. I have to say I am thoroughly impressed that the police are interested! I'm not knocking police but we have all heard stories about theft of this type not being taken seriously.

I wonder if the 3m Scotchshield Ultra films would help stop, or slowdown guys like this. I have never seen the stuff but it's advertised all over Florida to improve wind resistance and security for commercial and residential windows. Probably not... Maybe a conversion to a bullet proof model:-)

Good luck!

If it was an RTD park-n-ride, there might be video. There are cameras all over some of those lots.

Sorry to hear about that. The tools you just got for Christmas is some serious salt in the wound.

BTW...I didn't know you got a CO2 set-up!! Another Christmas present?

Sorry to hear that hope they catch the ppl. Just had my sat. radio, Radar Detect. and a bunch little stuff ripped off a few months ago wish I would had caught them in the act they got it right after I got home from work.

Good luck catching them.

I know that even with and alarm system they would have taken whatever they want. But if the vehicle was equipped with an alarm system...would you be able to call the police while the robbery was taking place?.

Sorry to hear about this.

I got broken into also a few years back and had the same marks left behind on the trim. Apparently they had a screwdriver or something similar that they wedge in the trim then leverage against the glass until it pops. Between fixing the trim, replacing drivers side window and back door small window, cupholder and my driver's mirror it came out to $1600 overall, thankfully insurance took care of me that time.

At least they took prints in your case and would be great to find them to get punished. Best case scenario hopefully you get your gear back too.

yeah, I'm not sure what the deductible is, but I'm going to look into it for sure.

No, it wasnt an RTD lot.

I got the co2 from my girlfriend as a birthday gift over the summer. I'm surprised you haven't seen it.

I'm sorry for your loss as well. I know how you feel. This is the first time I've had anything stolen, and i feel kinda the way i thought i'd feel. PISSED OFF!!!

I have an "anit-theft system" but if it's definitely not an alarm. It's got a little red button that blinks when i lock it. But it doesnt have an alarm. If i decide to get another sound system I will probly look into getting an alarm as well. Although I got the sound system right when i was 16 and thought it was really cool. I dont really turn it up that lound anymore anyways. But it was nice that i could when i wanted to.

That's awesome that insurace covered it. I'll probly get comprehensive someday when i can afford it. And yeah I'm keeping my fingers crossed they find the guys without getting my hopes up.

This sucks, I know because I've had a home broken into and a pickup truck stolen. Never to be seen again.... What parking lot were you in. I ask because I will going skiing in Summit county quite a bit over the next coupkle weeks. Thanks in advance.

Rear cargo cover and darker rear window tint - helps a lot....or bigger subs and a bigger box so they cant carry it lol.

I got the dark tint... but i like the bigger box that they cant carry idea lol.

ahhh Jeff that sucks...I had my Fiero broken into and the cops didn't do sh!t about it...lucky they're taking yours seriously. Hope they catch those little ****ers

that sucks - keep checking eBay too. Nice that the police seemed to give a damn though.

Cargo covers are pretty cheap used (always seems to be one on this site every month or so) - would be worth getting one to cover up the replacement sub etc.

No cargo cover?? I always just hope that no one will break in for something they cant see.

how come you didnt park at the Red Rocks ParknRide?? why Floyd Hill? just seems like an interesting place to park.

then again, i am ALWAYS the driver when i go snowboarding.

hopefully, they will catch whoever did this, and we will have to keep our eyes on craigslist wont we...

On the other hand, a good friend goes by the theory that the tonneau cover is just advertising that you have something worth hiding from view.... You never know what someone will be thinking.

I actually have a cargo cover. But i took it out last week as I started my most recent mod. But like jharris2 said, you never know what they are thinking. Obviously it couldnt have hurt the situation, and who knows, it could have helped.

Thanks all for keeping an eye out. I appreciate it. But it would really be a miracle to ever see my stuff again. :crybaby:

I think I'm gunna do a stake out and use my brother's car as bait. Obviously when they look at a row of cars, mine kinda sticks out a bit. lol. I think his falls in the same category as "sticking out," so I'm gunna park and go hide in the woods with a baseball bat and a video camera. I'd just really like to give them what they got coming :gun5:
