Another ? about my POS 4R V. Blower Motor

So, last night driving around worked just fine.

This morning i go start my 4runner, let it run for 20mins go out, wait! theres still ice on my windshield, weird i remember turning the defrost on? Oh wait THERES NO DAMN AIR BLOWING! Grr. So I check all the fuses, every thing is fine. Go drive it around nothing.

When i select diffrent fan settings, and modes i can hear them trying to work however nothing does.

So before i go out and spend $100 that i dont have, and i'm assuming im correct that its my blower motor? I just want to check before i go out. I havent checked my relays yet as it is facking cold, but i would assume they are fine sense i can hear the motor switch from Low through hi...

Any help would be greatly appriciated and merry christmas and all that jazz

*Update, Disconnected battery for an hour plugged it back in now heat works. wtf? Bad relay?

Hey sp33d.

There are several Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) that have been issued by Toyota related to the blower motor.

I'm not sure what year of T4R that you have, but you may wish to check with your local Toyota dealer about these TSBs.

The same thing happened to my 2003 last winter - no air movement from the HVAc at all speeds ... what you really need to do is keep clear any snow/ice off of the area where the front windshield wipers sit.

Under the TSB, my Toyota dealer installed a shield to help protect the blower motor from snow/ice build up at no charge to me. I have had no problems with the blower motor since.

Mine did this same thing when it was parked outside but there was no ice. it was just really cold. I would start the car and the climate control would be set on auto and a random temp say 75 without a/c on. it would never blow any air and the amout of air that it shows on the screen showed nothing. now if I were to take it out of auto mode, it worked just fine.

After working all day yesterday, this morning it stopped working again! damn it all to hell!

Heres what you do, call your local toyota dealer ask them to look up the TSB. There is a piece that costs $4 that fits in to the area just below the cabin filter. Have them print you instructions.

You will also have to remove your blower motor, its like 4 total screws and a couple wiring harnesses.

Take it out take it inside let it thaw out, make sure you get all the water out, hair dryer what ever... just get the water out.

in the TSB it recomends that you put RTV sealant around the perimiter of the blower to stop condensation (im guess) I did not do this and it hasnt caused a problem. I did mine when it was -25 degrees so you can understand why i didnt want to waste time.

After doing this, my blower has not frozen up since with some nights reaching -35 below here...

This TSB supersedes AC003-03 which is now obsolete.
