Another audio thread, what to do

My current radio, 2004 4runner sport JBL without RDS.

So it sounds tinny and crackly like bad speakers and bad reception. My first thought is to replace the speakers and find a location and mount an antenna. Before I do that I thought I would ask what you folks think. The radio system in these things are complicated. split antennas, one powered one not, factory amplifier, factory wiring etc etc.

What have you folks that have been in my situation found/done to resolve the problem.

in the same boat, JBL without RDS, installed JVC double din DVD and JBL amp turn on interface. Just not loud enough for me when my non JBL 2011 camry makes it sound like an alarm clock radio without a sub.
