Another blower problem

Hi ... I've got an 03 V6 Sport and the other day the blower started making a whirring sound. It would come and go but has just become constant. I checked the cabin air filter (replaced a year ago) and it looked fine. However, now the blower barely runs at all on any setting. I've got 120K+ miles so I expect things are going to need to be replaced and I'm okay with getting a new blower motor but, here's my problem: does anyone have any instructions on how to change the motor in an 03? I'd appreciate any help anyone has.

Thanks!

My '04 just started doing the same thing from the same area. It's still pretty intermittent though so I'm ignoring it. If you do end up replacing (or just oiling?) the motor, please post notes and photos here to make my job easier when mine finally gets bad enough to fix :naughty:

I don't know if this contributes to the problem. But everytime i check (1 @ month), underneath the cabin air filter is a mechanism that you can spin with your fingers. I have found some pebbles and some debris in there. And it seems that my blower blows better whenever i take the pebbles and debri outta there.

That's actually right where everything seems to be screwing up for me. Maybe this is my idiocy but I thought that was the blower. How do you get everything out? I can barely reach inside there.

If you run your HVAC System taking in fresh air from the outside as opposed to recirculation mode, you can get debris caught in the blower fan area that could cause the noise. MikesToy makes a good point to vacuum out the area. If that's not it, then possibly the blower fan itself is going bad.

Well, after investigating this more, I'm sure it is the blower motor. Everything looked (and felt) clean and the flywheel seemed to spin fine manually but, when the fan is turned on, the fan either doesn't work, sputters or varies speeds. So, I ordered a new fan last night and found a TSB that had pretty detailed instructions on how to get to the fan so I'll go ahead and replace it over the weekend. If I can figure out how to get pictures on here, I'll post it up when I'm done.

Thanks to everyone for their help. I appreciate it!!!
