Hey guys, I've got a 2003 V8 Full-Time 4WD Limited Runner with 125k on it that I'm having an issue with. I live in Oklahoma where I don't typically get to use the benefits of 4WD except a few times each year. Since we got 12" of snow dumped on us on Tuesday, I thought I would turn on the center differential lock to help get me out of the neighborhood. I hit the button while still in my driveway in N, and the "VSC off" light stayed on but the center differential light kept blinking and never engaged. I tried hitting the button again and also driving forward and reverse and turning wheels side to side, but I couldn't get anything to change. I then attempted to put the car in neutral and switch from 4H to 4L, but no "4LO" light blinked or did anything and the switch didn't pop out like it does in "4HI" position.
Not having a choice, I drove around town in 4H with the center differential light still blinking and "VCS off." Nothing has changed after driving several miles, turning the engine on and off, and even disconnecting the battery. I just spent over $1,000 to get timing belt changed, new water pump, and new windshield, so I'm hoping this won't turn into an expensive fix. Not sure if this problem could have anything to do with the timing belt/water pump change that was performed less than a month ago. Also thought it might could have something to do with the extremely cold temps (for Oklahoma) we've had lately, but I know others are used to much colder temps and I keep my Runner in the garage.
So does anyone have any new ideas? I read several other similar posts but couldn't find a solution. Also, is it going to damage the engine in the long-term if I continue to keep driving with the center differential light blinking and the "VSC Off" light on?
