another de-badge job

I have been looking at those letters and numbers for two years. Finally got the nads to yank them off. No fading observed. I am going to polish & wax next week, so this will make it easier. Any advise for two deep scratches about two inches long on a non-painted gray bumper?

nice..... its not hard.. but you need to be patient. Why did you debadge the V8? that would be one I would leave on...

scatches on unpainted surfaces is pretty hard to take off because it is the actual plastic that got scratched. Don't know if Scratch-x will work on unpainted surfaces.. but its always worth a try. Another product is plastic-x from the same company.

I have that same gorilla rack. I also wash the runna with the 2 bucket method. My guess is you have seen autopia.org. You can get the 303 at any marine shop. I think ACE hardware might have it. I got the big bottle. BTW, its not cheap.

I use it on the dash and plastic pieces. It gives a nice semi-shiney surface. I would not recommend it on the outside. It tends to run in the rain.

Sorry, but what is the two buckle method to washing a 4runner? Wow, you really take the time to tape up all the moldings before waxing. (guess, I'm not the only one)

The two bucket wash simply has one for soapy water and an additional bucket of plain water. You rinse your mitt off in the plain water before returning it the soap bucket. It keeps the soapy water mixture cleaner. Also, I usually wash two vehicles, one right after the other. If I did not use this method then I would have to dump the soapy water and re-mix as it would be very dirty after one vehicle. Thai has written an excellent Sticky for this. I also tried Maguire

Hair dryer with hot air + patience. You'll need to heat up the badges so that the glue on the back of the badges gets soft so you can slowly peel them off the car one by one.

word of advice.. GO SLOW!!!

oh.. for the residue at the end.. you can use "bug and tar" remover to clean it up. Be sure to wax that entire panel afterwards.

Some people use dental floss. I used a hairdryer and then pulled the sh_t out of them with my fingernails. It helps to have a thin plastic scraper. I will jam this under one side and pull on the opposite side. This is to avoid scratching the paint as the badge gives way. I have also parked vehicles in sun (at right angles to the badges) to heat them up, then start prying with your fingers. But it must be a bright & hot day for this method to work. Otherwise your fingers will become very sore by the end of the job.

Thanks for the Link. The aerospace stuff is very competitive, in price, if the 128oz bottle is bought. However you better love it because a gallon will last awhile. But if two people split the deal, then it becomes even more interesting.

this is going to be done on a 1996 4Runner, wonder if I will have any fade marks? If so, can this be buffed out?

Invest in some 'Goo off' you can find it at any hardware store. It comes in a small can with a flip tip top. If you saturate the badges and then use a string or dental floss, they will come right off. Any adhesive residue left over can be rubbed off with your finger. I would then wash and wax the area. Job done in less than 30 min.

If the vehicle is not garaged, then I would assume you will find fading. If so, I do not believe you can do much about it.
