Another fuel filter sucess story (PITA though)

Before your do your filter make sure to relieve the pressure on the system first. I wasn't thinking about it at the time of changing mine but lesson learned eyes and gasoline are not to good of friends.... I improved on Gas mileage a bite went from 21.2 mpg to 22.5 winter-23mpg hwy summer

Nah I am 4x4 I use 93 Oct and keep my tank full, filling up at half a tank. When I say half tank I have mileage set that I run to that helps a lot I fill up at 174 miles which shows me at about a half a tank which is 7.2 gallons. Now my city driving isn't as impressive. but I don't drive to town much during the work. City gets me 18.5-19.6 winter and summer is 19.2-19.8... I'm not saying the fuel filter alone done that but keeping up with maintenance in general def helps. O2 sensors, factory plugs and new NGK wires def helped plus 93 oct.

just replaced mine with oem on saturday, not sure if it was the original one or not (pulled an oem one out) but I think it was with 236k miles on it. hit the nuts with liquid wrench the night before, no issues at all. leak free first time!

I did notice some increase in power but I think that was from pulling the efi relay and resetting the system.

I bought a new filter as well. Stupid question, does it require a special tool? Or can I get at it will normal wrenches?

I used standard wrenches when replacing mine. of course if the bolts on the filter are rusted pretty bad, a line wrench would give u a better grab.

I would DEFINITELY invest in a 14mm flare nut/line wrench. I got a GearWrench brand one from amazon for about $12. It is P/N 81646.

I bought a whole set of metric ones on Amazon for cheap, Don't remember which brand. Drawback of the cheap ones is that the wrench is bulky and therefore harder to fit in tight places (compensating for cheap metal) and the chamfer is crap, making it harder to bite, unless you're right all the way on the damn thing.

So, I'm with neil, buy a better wrench like the one he suggested.

2x on this. You don't want to strip the nut to save $12. I think I paid $8 at Autozone and it works. PB Blaster and time another help!
