Another Fuel Pump???

I got My wife a 96 4runner about 5 yrs ago and when I bought it the Fuel Pump and battery both went out within 2 weeks of the initial purchase. 3 months ago I lifted it and in February the fuel pump went out(again). Now yesterday she drove it in the morning and in the afternoon she went to run to the store and the truck wouldn't start. I'm assuming its the fuel pump again because the truck is turning over fine and I replaced the fuel filter and strainer with the most recent pump change. I did have one problem though when me and my dad put the pump and tank back up in the truck. the very first time I put gas I had no problems but since that time everytime you pump gas the (gas) handle clicks every 2-3 seconds and if you force it gas will spray out at you. So today I'll begin dropping the tank again and hopefully find out that I bought a faulty fuel pump.....

Anyone ever had this problem with fuel pumps constantly going out?

this is a strange one, it sounds like something is stuck in the filler neck? if you're going to be under there, you may want to pull that hose out and verify there's nothing restricting flow. If your tank isn't breathing through your gas cap properly; if i'm thinking correctly that could be causing a vacuum in the tank and cause the pump to work overtime, leading to your symptoms..
just a thought..

Before you go dropping the tank you might jump the B+ and Fp terminals in the test connector to rule out a problem with the COR and AFM interlocks. A problem with either of those cuts power to the fuel pump.
