Another headlight thread.

So I've had my silverstar ultras for about a year now and today my left headlight burnt out. Don't know why, they arent used that often... kinda annoyed right now.

So before I go to Kragen and get myself another set of the same bulbs that might have a chance of burning out in a year, I want a bright white bulb that will last longer.

Can anyone post pics of their setups? I saw some searches but I'm not too sure what I want.

Ironic, the headlight that burnt out wasnt even the one that got moisture in it.

Silverstar's are by far and away the least reliable lights I have ever tried. I replaced all four headlight bulbs in my wifes Accord and they all blew in less than 6 months. I will not buy any Silverstars again. The Hella bulbs I put in next have been going strong for 3 years now.

In the 4Runner I run Hella 55/100's. Thats 55W low beam and 100W high beam. That wattage for highbeam is VERY bright, I'll never go back to 'standard' bulbs.

Silverstars are notorious for failing fast if anything gets on the bulb. I had 2 sets that lasted forever on my old truck and wife's car but a buddy got a finger print on one and it blew in 3 months.

Agreed.....Silverstars burnout easily. I had a pair on my jeep and ended up swapping them out for a set of Roundeyes.

That sounds great, do you have any pics? If they last three years, they're awesome already. I can't find them on Hella's site...

PIAA Extreme Whites burn out in less than a year. I have had several sets on my 4Runner. No more.

I bought them eBay and I got charged fr shipping once, they even mention they'll only charge once.

I got the bulbs and I like the output but they're a tad too yellow. they seem to whiten up though after theyve been on for a while

I don't know if this will be helpful or not, but I use to run stock HID's (D2R) bulbs with Casper Shields back in 2001 when all these HID kits were not readily available and so cheap.

It was a dramatic difference in output and the casper shields were very good at reducing glare. I removed them when I sold my rig in 2005, so for 4 years it did me right and it was awesome. You do lose your highbeams, but with this set-up I never had the need to use the Highbeam anymore.

I don't have any pictures anymore since I've sold my 4runner, but I'll probably do the same thing when I get another 4runner.
