Another Leaking Valve Cover Thread

Noticed that my valve covers were leaking a little while back. Like many others, I noticed the bolts on the cover were quite loose. I went to tighten them, however I can't get them anywhere near the 52 INCH/lbs or 4.3 ft/lbs without the washer seals sandwiching out from the bolt. Should I try just replacing those seals first before going in for a full valve cover gasket job?

Chances are it's not just the bolts being loose. Especially if you or anyone else has never replaced those gaskets before. Regardless, you can't get to inner bolts without taking off the intake/throttle body and both plenums. If you're going to do that might as well just do the whole dang job.

Yeah I agree. It's really not too bad of a job. Timmy the Tool man [MENTION=120071]mtbtim[/MENTION] has a thread with a bunch of really great DIY videos and I know he has one on valve cover gaskets. Its step by step and really helpful.

Replace everything in there, including removing the cam/semi circular plugs and resealing them, no need to buy new ones.

I'd say good luck but having found the SC for $500 you of all members don't need it....

Yes, when I pulled the 3.4 out of the wreck those plugs were defiantly leaking oil.

I thought the PNW was in dire need of rain. My buddy, a ski instructor at Mount Rose in Reno, says they have received 679 inches of snow. No thanks, ever.

Cali? Yes. Washington? Not in the least. I was just up in Vancouver, BC and they've had over 4 days of decent snow in the city. Hasn't snowed once there in 8 years.
