Hello,
I have been lurking for a while. Started by looking for a 4th gen 4Runner with a V8 and third row. Those were hard to come by. Looked in to the GX470 and drove a few. Really liked them. Decided to look for a while until I found exactly what I wanted. I drove to Tulsa, OK from Iowa starting at 4am Monday morning. Roads where crap after a foot or more of snow at home. Took about 3 hours longer than it should have. I drove down in my 1995 FZJ80 Land Cruiser which helped get me through the carnage at 10 miles a gallon. That tank will be missed. It is an awesome machine. I got home today after a night in Kansas City with exactly what I was after. I am now the proud owner of a silver 2007 Lexus GX470. It has 41k miles and was a one owner vehicle bought and serviced at Lexus of Tulsa. All records available and on Carfax. This thing is mint. It is like having a brand new GX. Has one small dent on the rear door that made it available to me. It has no Navigation/Mark Levinson which is ideal for me. No KDSS which I could have gone either way. Beige interior which I know can get dirty easy, but I really like the Silver with Beige interior. It looks like none of the back seats have been ever used. Also has tow package and hitch. Basically the car is exactly like I wanted.
As mentioned, I am coming from a 1995 FZJ80 Land Cruiser. Spent some time on I8mud learning about those. Awesome truck and will be missed. I took a look at what my needs really are. I wanted a more comfortable daily driver, better gas mileage, more power, more modern. I have a wife and four kids (the last one was twins). Really thought I would go 100 series LC. Anything with low miles in great condition was out of my price range. It will mostly serve as my DD for a 12 mile round trip drive to work. It will also be used to haul two canoes and gear for weekend float trips. The one thing that really pushed me in to a change was a road trip my family took last summer. We took my wife's 2012 Honda Pilot with the largest Yakima Skybox they make across the country on a 5,300 mile trip pulling a pop-up camper from Iowa to the Redwoods in California and back. Took about 2.5 weeks and covered 8 National Parks/Monuments. Awesome trip. Pilot did OK but had to work too hard in the mountains. I think if we kept using it that would be hard on it. I also longed to run some trails we found in Dinosaur National Monument early in the trip. Kept thinking this would be awesome in my Land Cruiser.
Basically, my kids are young and small and only one has to ride in the tiny third row so the GX 470 will fit us with most of our crap on the roof or in the camper. I plan to use it on a trip to the Adirondacks and Acadia in Maine next summer. This year will be mostly Boundary Waters and local river trips. Plans for the GX are to keep stock for now. I plan to make mods as they come up as needed. Most of my off road use will most likely be light trails on our road trips. I would like to head towards Utah in a few years which may be a catalyst for some mods. Only mod I have now is 78" Yakima cross bars I use to haul two canoes and some straps under the hood to tie to. Likely first mod will be tires. Have a new set of the OEM Bridgestones that the dealer put on. Probably keep those for a while.
Basically, I really like my new GX. It is a great car. Only issue so far after a 600 mile drive home is the windshield washer fluid did not work today but it may be frozen. I parked in my garage which is in the 40s so will see if it works tomorrow. Sorry for the long post but wanted to introduce myself and the new ride. Don't have any pictures I took yet but do have some from Autotrader where I found it.
