Hey everyone. Just signed up, hoping to get a little help and advice.

My wife has a 2002 4runner 4x4. Unfortunately, it has had more problems than I ever expected. The latest one has to do with electronics/computers I believe.

This morning, the Brake, VSC TRAK, VSC OFF and ABS lights stayed on. On my way to the shop, I also noticed the speedometer wasn't working. From what I gathered from my local shop, the skid control module is not getting or sending any information to the computer - i.e. not even throwing any codes saying it isn't working. They said they would need to start with replacing the skid control module with a rebuit or new one at a cost of ~$1400 or $1800, respectively. I'm just not sure it's worth it at this point, but not really in a position to buy a new car.

Any thoughts or suggests on what other things might cause these problems? Would buying a salvage part work, or would the vehicle not recognize it without a flash?

Any help on this is greatly appreciated. I probably need to post this in another forum, but thought I'd start here.

So... :hello:

BTW, I have been searching and reading a few somewhat related threads, but not sure anything really matches up.

I will ask the shop to check the gas cap and brake fluid levels, but I don't think either of those affect the speedometer. Need to look into the Zero Point Calibration a bit more and ask them to try and clear the codes, too.
