Howdy from Texas!
I recently purchased a 2007 4Runner and was dismayed to find the A/C and multifunction display's night lights were out. After a quick googling (that should be a word, spellcheck) I found a write up on how to fix 'em and it worked beautifully...that is, of course, until I read about the LED mod.
Anyhow, this is my first Toyota. My father's 82 stepside Toyota had 475K on the clock when he sold it in `92 and I still see it on the road, so I figured it couldn't be a bad move to get another one.
It needed tires straight from the lot, so I replaced the slick dunlops with some BFG A/T's in the OE size. I'm getting a slight rub @ full lock but it's not horrible. The truck tracks pretty good-- Slight pull to the right but that could be slope of the road. Since the last alignment I have paperwork on is from 2009, another is probably in order so I don't waste my tires too early. While the tires were off I checked out the brakes. The front brakes were done this time last year and look to be in good shape. The rears I'll have to do in the next 10-20k I'm betting. No uneven wear so it's probably a safe assumption that calipers won't be needed.
My issue is this: I bought this truck with 91K on it, and the papers I got out of the glove box from the PO show a bunch of oil changes, cabin air filters, a receipt for the battery (yaaay warranty!) and what looks like at least one service (at 35K)of front/rear diff and transfer case and they added what reads to be GL5 80W90 to all three. 1>Does this seem right to y'all, and should it be changed? If so, to what?
2>Since I have no obvious paperwork on the subject, should I go ahead and do plugs? 3>Anything else that I should do because I have no idea if it was ever done? Tranny flush? Maybe some liquid de-burr on the camshaft?
