That's because they are good trucks. It's hard to find one that hasn't been worn out, rusty, or abused by someone(s) with too many tools and too few brains. I paid what you, Kfitz77555, would certainly consider way too much 7k for my 93 shortbed in 1211. But it was spotless (that's a thing of the past now that it's been my truck) and the low miles it was a no brained. Besides I got a bunch of cash back from trading in the paid for 07 Subaru Baja with equal mileage which I'd beaten the crap out a a business vehicle. And I'm as happy a a pig in, well, its kind of nice in these parts and Toyota trucks work well here and are one of the few vehicles that can really deal with the conditions without giving up the ghost in one or two 100k. And the old ones (still seem way modern too me) are way more fun as long as you don't have a passenger (sorry dear) complaining about the ride quality.
There you go that Mr K is why I pointed it out. And if you haven't noticed 1700 today is like 500 a few years ago. And compound that when you add the "Toyota
Tax".
I'm sure you can find plenty of med-sized Dodge, Chevy, Ford trucks of the same vintage for way less. And they if running would likely be a "smoking deal" literally.
It really not about 1700 or 1000 if that's what your looking for. With relatively low cost and a bit of hobby shop work on that truck and it will likely out last anything you can get for near the coin. If it's what if appears to be. But you kfit55777 mostly likely have a lead on many such a truck as well as excellent like new condition hens teeth which are just as easy to find if that's what your after.
Do a quick nation wide search on CL for a clean low mile first gen and see what you come up with.
Oh, and if you did it right, keep it clean and original could likely pan out. a good investment down the road.
