Another Rusty Rola Rack

So I've only had my Rola rack since October. And a couple week ago I got the horrible rusty drip coming down on my truck. Ive notice some people have had the same problems and some havent. I know you get what you pay for and i got a rusty rack unfortunately..

So today I decided to attempt to fix it. Instead of just using paint to seal it, I decide to pick up some clear all weather caulk once that dries I will probably hit it with some paint later.. Mainly I just just sealed the two pieces that come together since that seemed to be where most of the rust was leaking out of..so we will see how it fairs.

havn't noticed rust yet (only because i havn't gotten up to look) but once i install my lights up there ill take a look and do the same. i'm pretty sure all weather clauk will work best. then hit with some paint and u should be rust free

YA i have slight rust but i plan to do the same after i buy my two extension pieces since i dont wanna seal it and have to redo it later...

First off....War Eagle

Second...I was actually thinking of getting one of these racks. It's the only one I really like because of it being so slim...I'd make custom brackets so it doesn't sit on top of the stock rails... Would you still recommend it?

I would still recommend it bc i plan to make custom mounts and extend it and run it til it breaks... i think its a nice looking rack and sits lower then most and is significantly cheaper. They just went down in price also... i bought mine for 180 new and now they can be bought new for 130

Yeah i love the rack, the price, the low profie of it. Just gotta keep the water out of those sloppy welds ha.

Dude. WAR EAGLE...i cant believe were going to Glendale in January, its gonna be a sick game.

I would most certainly still recommend it, its a great look and price. But yeah some people have had problems and some havent but im hoping it can all be fixed.

sorry for the hijack..but maybe this could intrest the OP as well...

anyone have the link to make the rola rack sit lower? someone did a mod that literally had it on the roof. I want the rack to look as if it was a part of the 4runner. not an attachment

Ya look on Chris's FB page bc i know he has pics there... ya i need to stop procrastinating since i think i found something like Chris's brackets but a bit better so itll withstand more weight on it.

I had the rola rack but sold it. It got rusty as well at the seams. My buddy had his welded together at all the seams and then he had legs welded on it and it mounted directly to the roof at the factory mounting points. It turned out great. Its Bt216 over on toyota120.com

oh i never posted this...

Hahaha...one of my good friends goes to Auburn...She's been freaking out this year because of how well yall are doing and I saw your Auburn plate on the front of your truck earlier and had to throw that in there haha

And I'm not too worried about the rust...First because it hardly rains in Dallas...and if it does rust...I can always Fix it...

LOL @ war eagle! You guys did that chant so damn much at the championship game against Oregon.... (Go ducks!)

Anyway I would just plasti-dip the whole rack and I bet you wouldn't have that issue. I'm not getting a rola rack if that is the case... Rust running onto the 4runner??!

I've had mine for a few months now and no rust yet, for the price I think its a good buy. If it starts to rust ill repaint it and spray fluid film on the shitty welds to prevent any further rust.....but so far its been fine.
