Another Silly Question

So. After I hit the "lock" button on my key fob 3 times, my 4R decides not to start. The starter clicks like mad, but the engine doesn't even attempt to turn over. What's the deal? Is this some weird security feature?

For reference, it's a 99 LTD.

is there a remote start?

when you say it clicks like mad do you mean it flashes red on/off? Mine does that sometimes and I have to pull the battery.

Anyway.. I believe I did not word that right.
Sequence of events:
I turn to truck on, drive around a bit, park it, shut it off
I have a very bad habit of always hitting the LOCK button on my key fob 3 times (I like to hear the beep on my Subaru)
After locking the truck doing 3 presses, and I go to start it up again, it won't start. If I only hit the lock button once.. I have no problems.. If I hit it twice, again, I have no problems.

Symptoms:
The starter clicks just fine, like it's supposed to. But, the engine does not turn over.

My best guess is that the truck either has a kill switch via the 3 lock trigger, or I have a wiring/ecu/alarm problem. My recent, rather simple fix, has been to NOT hit the lock button on the key fob 3x.

It sounds funny, and really may even have a purpose, but I dislike having to reset the ecu in order to start my Runner.

I take it you have the upgraded security system? I wouldn't be surprised if there is a kill switch coded in there for 3 clicks. There would have to be a way to unlock it though. Have you read through the security system manual?

I have not, but I haven't gotten around to looking for it yet either. Oh well.

Off topic note.. I pulled a brand new F250 single out of 4 feet of water today. Feeling quite humble.

Is it a Toyota alarm and how long has it been doing this? I bet your stater is on its way out.
