Another *@#%! speeding ticket

I just had the displeasure of receiving my second speeding ticket in six months driving the 4Runner... this after a period of about ten years of spotless record!! CURSE this damned smooth-accelerating V8!! It's far too tempting to get on the gas. It's easy to be doing 10 to 15 mph over the speed limit and not even know it.

And the very day after getting nailed again, I was driving home along a two-lane semi-rural road, obeying the far-too-slow speed limit of 35 mph, when I notice a kid in a jacked-up Titan weaving through the traffic behind me. He finally makes it up to me and moves to pass, so I accelerate slightly. Now I can see that his hat is turned backwards and he looks about 14 years old... I guess that did it. So, when he found the opportunity to hammer the throttle and blast past me, I gave in to the temptation and decided not to let him. :tongue: So, I found myself doing nearly 80 mph in a 35. After a few seconds he gave up and dropped back behind me (where he should be) with a face that looked sort-of like :bugeye:

Like I said, it's just so tempting. I don't get to drive the 4Runner every day (it's my wife's, after all), so hopefully the novelty will wear-off soon... but I kind-of doubt it.

I don't know the circumstances but just showing up in court to contest it and not have the officer show up would get it thrown out or sometimes they will reduce it to a non-points ticket and just fine you.

That same senario happened to me last summer. First cop gave me a break and wrote the ticket out for an under 5mph over the limit ticket which is just a fine and no points.

The second one, the trooper pulled me over and saw 3 kids seats in the back and I think he felt bad and told me if I went to court he wouldn't be there. And that is exactly what happened.

Yeah, I know, I know, but I HATE missing half a day of work to sit in a court room. I already just sent in the fine ($101.00 for ten miles over). Both tickets were in the same spot... about 1/2 mile from where my road goes from 35 to 50, so naturally people begin to speed up around there... it's a favorite spot for motercycle state troopers to hang out and nail people. The bummer is, I was the last of about half a dozen other people going the same speed. Trooper says "well, I can't pull everybody over at the same time". Just unlucky, I guess. I should have learned the first time though!

so, how does it work in washington? do you have to appear in court? or can you mail the payment and call it good? also, can you get your first ticket within 18 months taken off the record with a driver's ed course?

HAH sucka got GAMED! my friends used to do it all the time when we were immature teens. we would drive near each other and when we'd see peeps goin all crazy, we'd just try and block them from advancing. one car would go a lil faster, but not leave as much room to pass. then the other car would speed up but not enough to pass. its pretty hillarious. people would get PISSED!!!

one time a group of 4 cars drove on a highway and we blocked every lane by driving in a line next to each other. there were soo many people behind us. we were all drivin the speed limit so i dont know why everyone was soo upset?!?! :flipoff:

Nah, you can just send it in. It's all about the revenue anyway, so they don't make you appear in court. In fact, they count on most people not appearing in court for speeding tickets. If everybody DID appear in court, it would become much too costly for the state, and they wouldn't make any money.

Weird. I too recently got a ticket in the 4Runner after years of nothing - and after a year of driving an Audi at WAY over the speed limits. In the 4Runner, I was just in the left-most lane driving with the flow of traffic (75 in a 65 zone). Maybe they have something against SUVs. After getting away with what I did in the Audi - when I deserved a ticket - I have to wonder.

TRAFFIC SCHOOL JUST BITES! even the online version is purely a BIG WASTE OF TIME!

but anyway, just venting since i had to burn about 1+hr on an online version...

at least you could take that option..

here in CO, you must appear in court, no matter what.. no traffic school option, either.. if you are an out of state person and get a ticket here, you have to arrange a trip here to show up for court..

Just an hour! I took an online traffic school for a ticket I got minutes after crossing from CA to AZ on I-10 and it took more like 8 hours. They had timers set up so that there was a minimum amount of time required for each module and also randomly timed popup questions so that you couldn't walk away from the screen.

And he only gave you a ticket for 10 mph over??? Your real lucky, slow down you might end up killing someone.

holy crap, you must have picked the wrong online one then!!! I went thru like 6 before i decided on the one i finally took. and even at that i had to take 8 mini tests and then a final test (40 questions - random crap too... like what is the number of deaths from drunk driving in 1997 ?!?!)

traffic school is lame... but at the sametime atleast i don't have to deal w/ the 8 hr sitting in class... regardless i won't be speeding or doing anything retarded for 18 months now.

and for the CO remark, damn i guess i won't be visiting that state! lol jk

No, no... I recieved a ticket for 10 miles over at a different location. I was only doing 10 miles over, and so was the the rest of the "pack". I just got singled out. Crappy luck.

Also, you seem to have mistaken me for some reckless maniac. The rural road on which that incident took place is straight and has no cross roads. It used to be 60 mph, however it has just been zoned for future commercial development and has recently been posted 35. It's ridiculously slow driving for an 8 mile stretch of country acreage... believe me.

Now... I am not going to argue that I had no business giving in to my usually-suppressed immaturity by speeding 75 to 80 mph for that brief 8 to 10 seconds, however, I did not endanger any lives in doing so "dad".

OK son I misunderstood what you wrote. But your still going to have to mow the yard every week and take out the trash and wash the dishes and clean the house all for no allowance for the next month.

And, same thing as you... I really should've gotten tickets in that car, I did way too much stupid shiat in that car. But that damn quattro, could just pull around corners so well..., and 80-90 mph in that car I was just shifting out of third, two gears to go.

As long as your insurance company doesn't pull your dmv record, that $101 will be cheap... but if they find the ticket, you'll be paying a lot more through increased rates over a period of several years. To me, it's better to take a "sick" day in court to plea bargain a speeding ticket down to a non-moving violation such as "unsafe vehicle" than have to pay the insurance company even more than what they already gouge me for...

2003 A4 1.8t. Car for work since they were making me drive 150 miles per day. I don't do that anymore. Very fun car to drive. Beat a lot of faster cars because of the cornering.

But I missed having a truck. It's all better now.
