Another tire question

I am getting ready to purchase new tires for my 4runner. Not sure what I'm gonna go w/ but I think that I have narrowed it down to BFG A/T KOs or the Kumho Road Venture M/T.

My main issue is what size to go with. I'm going to be lifting my 4runner at some point (suspension lift) but I am not going to be reargearing or anything like that. From what I can gather the 31 10.50 R15 will fit no problems but I was wondering if the 32 12.50 R15 would fit on a stock 1997 4runner?

I did some searching and the answers seem to be mixed, I would like to drive out of the shop w/ out any major rubbing issues.

Also, feel free to chime in if you have anything good (or bad) to say about either of those tire choices.

I don't know about 15in rim sizes (are you sure you have 15in rims or did you just check the door sticker? My sticker says I have 15's but I have factory 16's)

I can tell you my non lifted '00 has slight rubbing when near full lock and turning up an incline. I have 265 75 16 (31") BFG AT KO's.

Ultimately every year sat at a different height and every truck sits differently.

I belive any 31" will fit but the more aggressive the tread like mud terrains will rub more aggressively under flex and lock.
 
thanks for the reply. They're definitely 15 inch. I checked the current tires. They're some Enkei rims which were apparently an option from toyota at some point.
 
The 32" would definitely look better once you have your lift, but I dout you're going to be happy with them when they tear your fenders trim and mudguards off in the mean time.

If it helps with your decision making on brand, lots of guys (myself included) are running the BFG's and are quite pleased with them. They were far quieter than I though they would be and have excellent traction in a variety of conditions and surfaces.

If you're really looking to play in the mud though the larger blocks and voids will help. I haven't had an issue in mud yet with my BFG's though I don't go looking for places to bog.

I have 15" enkei wheels on my 99 SR5. I've never seen or heard of them on any other T4Rs. Didn't figure they were original. Were they a factory or dealer option?
 
Might wait till after I lift the truck to get new tires then. I have all the parts for my lift, but they are a 2.5 hour drive away at my gf's parent's house. Didn't want to make that drive on the tires that came w/ the truck, so I was hoping I could get the tires on and then install the lift later.
 
I'm curious why your two tire choices are between All terrains and Mud terrains? Is pricing the deciding factor?

I used to always run BFG KM2 mud terrains but have since switched to Wrangler MTR w/ Kevlar. Theyre pretty quiet on the highway and the sidewalls are much better.... my only gripe with KM2s is ive seen many people including myself cut the soft sidewalls.

How much wheeling to do think you'll be doing?
 
I have a 2nd vehicle, and a company car so this is for wheeling, camping, and running some errands on the weekends. I was leaning towards ats just because I'm not sure if mud terrains are really necessary for me. However the kumhos were a good deal so I was considering those. Pretty sure that I am going w/ the bfgs though.
 
As a suggestion, I'm thoroughly impressed with my Mickey Thompson Baja STZ's, and they're very reasonably priced.

I was just in the Leadville are of Colorado, on very old mining trails with large boulders and steep inclines for long climbs, and they never skipped a beat. On top of that, the 1400 mile round trip was just as comfortable as when I had my highway tires on the truck.

Getting them through 4 Wheel Parts, I was able to utilize their "Buy all 4 get $100 off" deal that they had going, so it was a pretty good price out the door. I took them to Hibdon Tires Plus to have them installed and the alignment done at the same time.
 
The BFG AT/KOs are the well-established, small-c-conservative choice;
Personally, I really don't want to experiment with tire choices while driving on roads made out of a'ha lava rocks out in the Mojave Desert.
Don't know what the road hazards are in your area, so, as always, ymmv.
 
That's pretty much the reason that I'm leaning towards the bfgs. Haven't heard many bad reviews about them and everyone says that they last a while. I'm in Florida, so not to many rocks but I've spent some time on trails where roots and sticks and things could be a potential hazard. Also there is a $70 mail in rebate for the bfgs out there, so rey can be had at a good price.
 
Take a look at the General Grabber At2's as well. Almost identical to bfg ats, but typically cheaper. They have good reviews too.
 
Thanks for the help y'all. I just made an appointment at tire kingdom to get some BFG all terrains installed. Pretty excited about finally getting new tires on the 4runner. I'll have to start a build thread one of these days or just post up pictures of the runner with the new tires.
 
You won't be disappointed with the BFGs. Great tire and they wear like iron on our 4Runners. Mine had more miles on them than I care to admit and still made it through some pretty tough terrain including mud here in Tennessee with no issues. I'm thoroughly impressed by their off road capability.
