another tire question

so i have narrowed it down. i love the nitto terra grapplers, but there is an issue. they only make/sell them in a load range d (8 ply) tire from what i have been told. but the toyo open country at's can be purchased in a lt load range as a 6 ply.

wont the difference be noticeable in gas millage and "Get up and go" so to speak with a thicker tire, or is it not nearly that noticeable. i love the nittos but i dont want something thats going to kill my millage all that much

thanks

D load rating or E

you can get the stiff sidewall D load rating or the even stiffer E rated tire from Nitto in the 265/75/16 size.

I am not going to conjecture about possible impact to fuel mileage-but here is what my experience was:

I went from P rated 265/70/16s Goodyear Wranglers to LT rated 265/75/16s Nittos and did not notice anything with relation to gas mileage.

It's a fine tire. The prices have come up on them lately. I am happy with my wear, I have had mine on over 20K miles and they have better than half the tread remaining.

I have the D load rated Nittos and my mileage is right in where most 4Runners fall in (15-18 city/20-22 hwy) so really the tires didn't alter anything.

To compare my mom gets about maybe a mile or two better in her '99 Limited (on stock size LT Yok AT-S) and she's a bit more conservative with the throttle than me.

Anyone here completely killed a set of nitto terra grapplers yet? Local shop is pushing them, the lack of white lettering is kinda turn off and the average person on the street claims they burn up quick.

I need real world info here. My choices are BFG at, Mich ltx-ms, and the terras. The terras are about $100 bucks cheaper than the other 2 and the tread looks ok to me. My concern is life!

I'm pretty sure you would get about 5-10k more out of the BFG and I bet the Michelins would last even longer. Michelins are really good tires, they just don't look super aggressive.

Yeah, the nittos are bad ass looking, but i wasnt too impressed with their performance off road. they just arent agressive enough. they wear out pretty quik too, maybe im just taking turns too fast, got about 35 to 40k out of them.

The bfgs are good tires i got about 45k miles out of them from my experience they do well in most conditions.

Right now im on michelin ltx's and i like them, even though they look pu**y as hell. i tear them apart and they still look new i got like 15k miles on them so far. and im lifted and supercharged and i can get 19 mpg on a good tank

so whats the consensus on the toyo open country at's?

seems that they have a longer tread life, and they are the parent company of nitto, plus i could get them in an LT instead of a D, but for just a bit more. still like the look of the nittos more
