Another Water Pump!

Is it normal to have to have the water pump replaced three times within 155k.

I have '95 6cycl.

water pump replaced March2001 at 94k
water pump replaced Dec. 2005 at 132k
now it is at 155k..

Is this a symptom of bigger issue?

The reason I have the truck into a mechanic was for an engine noise that happens when the engine is cold. Then it goes away after a minute or so.

He thought it was a computer sensor vacuum line thing, but changed his mind.
Now he wants to replace water pump and do timing belt.

Do I really need to replace timing belt again, within 60k of the first replacement.?
Will it hurt engine if it goes out while driving?
I heard not. ,...cost more to replace if it breaks?

MONEY IS SO TIGHT!

I need some relief. Just paid $300 to replace power steering fluid pump. It needed it.

PLEASE Help me! I need sound advice.

Peace,

Dave

No, 3 in 155K mi doesn't sound normal to me.

As for the TB, 60K seems a little soon, but check your owners manual, they do need to be replaced more often than a chain.

You might want to get a 2nd opinion before spending more $.

Water pumps shouldnt go that quickly but the timing belt might need to be replaced by 60k miles. That's the interval for my late 90s VW. If you're already having the water pump done, you may as well have the belt done at the same time since they take it all apart anyways.

Parts should cost around $200 (including new tensioners and rollers)... labor, no more than 3 hrs for a mechanic worth his salt.

Im not sure what kind of water pump you're putting in there but you may want to see if there's a higher quality one out there.

Usually people replace their belt and go cheap and skip on the water pump only to have a problem with the pump a little while later and have to pay for the work all over again.

my 90 4runner was recalled for the water pump back in the early 90's
Maybe some of you can get new ones too.

Infact, my v6 has had about 5 or 6 timing belts replaced whether they needed to be or not.
