Another weird problem

Hey guys,

I have a 2004 4runner sr5. I'm experiencing a weird problem My rear window, defroster, and wiper stopped working. I know all the tricks about making sure the wiper is in the right position and that the window is all the way up. But unfortunately it gets more complicated. My tailgate does not open either. Since nothing including the tailgate didn't have power I replaced the ecu in the tailgate but that did not work either. The next thing I suspected was the motor but that would not explain the cause of the tailgate not opening....All the fuses are good I have no idea what to check next. Any ideas guys?

You probably just disconnected your battery. All you have to do is roll the rear window up and down a few times and everything should be alright.

Thanks for the suggestion but the back window does not have any power. when I push the button on the dash it does nothing. All the other windows work except the rear tailgate window.

Any other thoughts?

Check the condition of the "30 amp power" fuse located in the drivers side junction box. If it isn't that check the body ECU which communicates with the rear door ECU.

i just tried both of those and neither worked. Nice thought though. Any other thoughts or do I need to pay up and take it to the dealer?

If you have a VOM (meter) and the schematic diagrams for your truck (available elsewhere on this forum) I would look for power and check all grounds. Anything beyond that requires an oscilloscope and the dealer can find it faster by swapping modules from stock until they find it. Are you absolutely sure the window lock is not on on the drivers door controls?
