Antenna removal

I have a 1988 4runner. I never use the am/fm radio in it, I just listen to Cd's. I's installing a cb into it and I want to replace the antenna for the radio with the antenna for the cb.

I got into the Fender well unbolted and I got the antenna mount unbolted, but I couldn't get the antenna free. I looked through my Haynes manual, pos that it is, and not once does it mention anything about taking out the antenna.

What else needs to happen before I can pop the antenna out?

hi,

i replaced my antenna in my '88 4runner last week.

i removed the fender well trim.

i then removed the antenna from the base by unscrewing it.

there is a "nut" at the base of the antenna that needs to be removed and then remove the rubber grommet - on top of the fender.

then remove the bolt at the bottom of the antenna from the frame.

once you remove the 1. antenna 2. the "nut" 3. the rubber grommet and 4. the bolt at the base of the antenna mast - the antenna should drop.

you want to cut the antenna cable/wire near the fender where it enters into the cab and tape/wire tie/secure the cb antenna to it and then pull into the cab.

it'll make running the cb antenna into the cab a lot easier.

I have another question. Where is this; "there is a "nut" at the base of the antenna that needs to be removed"?

I found the one that bolted the antenna to the frame. But I looked all over inside the fender and i couldn't find anything that looked like a nut on the antenna. Is it inside the fender, or is it undernieth the rubber grommet?

Thanks, After posting I went back out and looked at it again. I found the nut, I just had to get an adjustable wrench with a better bite to it to turn the nut.
