Anti theft on my '85 4runner

This question has been asked but I'm looking for a way to secure my truck from wandering off. I was planning on doing a kill switch to the fuel pump as others have done. My question is, how exactly. Do I just wire a switch into the positive wire? Does it have to be a certain type of switch or just a simple toggle switch. I was all set to do it yesterday but chickened out when it came time to cut the wire.

I have a couple of spare toggle switches. I also though about reusing the A/C switch because the A/C doesn't work and I have no plans to fix it.

I'm not very experienced with electrical. I can strip, splice and solder, I'm just not sure what wires to do it to.

can't tell you what wire to use, you could find the relay and/or fuse and run it off that wire.

I had this in my 81, will probably move it to my 94 if I can find a 15" wheel i like
allows you to remove your steering wheel and hide it or I would lock it in the back of my truck

Yes, insert a simple single-throw wire into positive wire. Double-pole (two separate contacts that close at the same time) would be nice, so you have back-up contact in case one breaks.
Best to use a brand-new, reliable switch so it does not breakdown on you and kill your fuel when you don't want it to.
Then hide the switch and don't post location here

a lot of these get stolen, because their ignition, and lock tumblers are worn. then any old worn Toyota key will work.

I recommend going to the dealer and getting a new ignition cylinder. they use a new type of key, its slightly larger. I would also have the door cylinders either re-keyed, or replaced as well.

now, this is not to say don't do the other things you were planning. but this will remove the easy access people have to these vehicles.

The T/C lock actually saved my Trekker at least twice leaving the truck locked into low/reverse. A couple of switches in the ignition circuit and the removeable steering wheel worked great. Ran it with out a top and half doors for 4-6 months out of the year


It was very simple to make
