Let There Be Light!- Volume#1
Due to an act of Divine Intervention these were delivered by the UPS man yesterday.
Rigid Industries SR series Specter 6" LED's; driving light pattern.
Why divine intervention? Let's just say it's astonishing, especially in today's world, how thoughtful and generous some people on this forum can be. I promised anonymity so that's all I can say.

Eventually, a 10" Rigid Hybrid SPOT will fill the middle slot on the Gobi. For now, I left the Hella FF75's in there.
Look at the difference in light output between the LED's and the 55W Hella's! Seriously, one Rigid light is easily twice as bright as all 4 Hella's.
Looks a little stupid with those Hella's still on there, but that'll be fixed soon enough.
Can't wait for dark!
Oh yeah, don't ask for "night shots", I can't even take pictures during the daytime yet.

Totally awesome. I have been M.I.A. a little bit but as usual you never cease to amaze. My mod's got halted by he pocket book but only due to trying to be more conservative. I will definitely being going the RIGID route and I have heard nothing but great things about them. Keep us posted on how they hold up and if they take abuse well which I am sure will not be a problem for them.

If it makes you feel any better, I am giving my Hella's away to a deserving forum member that serves our country. I know he will appreciate them as much as I appreciate my Rigids!

Flush mount Scanguage
Look what I got as a B-day present...
Nothing new here, right? I had a Scanguage in my Titan and I flush mounted it in the dash for a really clean look. It turned out so good I figured I would try it again in the 4Runner.
I decided to convert my sunglass holder in the OH console to my Scanguage mount. I wanted the compartment to remain useful as well.
***Warning! Before you try this, take a look at how much a new O/H console costs(!), along with a perfectly good Scanguage.
Lots of expensive plastic got cut up for this one...
OK- First thing you have to do is cut the faceplate of the Scanguage so it's flat. Dremel works great for this!
You will also have to cut the hell out of the back cover of the Scanguage. Pics of that later...
Take out the O/H console- only takes 2 screws:
Unscrew the sunglass holder (4 screws) and take it apart.
*** Pull out the foam rubber inside and save it for later.
Time to cut the hole. No turning back now! I cut a sticker to the exact size of the hole and stuck it in place. It's easy to visualize the hole like this and make sure it will be centered and level.
Cut it a little bit small and take your time to make it the right size!
After ALOT of work and patience this is the result...
**Notice the front panel is curved at the top. You won't see this gap once installed, BUT the Scanguage will spill light through that gap. I cut some of the foam rubber and put it along the top edge. Worked like a charm.
OOPS! There wasn't enough room to get screws back into the bottom of the faceplate.
SOLUTION! Ever tried plastic welding? Basically a hot soldering iron and you melt the surfaces carefully together. It's fun!
The top of the faceplate can be screwed to the back cover again after ALOT of dremel work...
More foam protects the back of the Scanguage.

Time to cut more!
In order for the panel to operate smoothly it needs to be "massaged" a bit:
See the silver screw in the cutout at the top? This is what holds the panel at the correct angle to view the Scanguage. With a little adjustment it will hold the panel open and still allow it to be opened all the way and latch shut.
Last thing is to cut a hole in the top for the cable to pass through, then...
Put it all back together!
All this cutting and hacking took about 4 hours. Wifey was getting pissed!
Anyway- here are some completed pics.
And... it still opens, closes and doesn't block the rearview mirror at all.
Very pleased with the outcome, but it required a ton of "Antman engineering!"
