You like knives, huh? I haven't gone more than 12 hours without a knife since I was like 15 years old. Have you heard of Rick Hinderer? Him and his wife are pretty good friends of mine. Check out his website. I'm not buying you a Hinderer though, I was thinking another Benchmade or a Spyderco...

Yeah, I like knives alot. I'm pretty hard on 'em though. I've had quite a few Spyderco's- like them too, but the weight of the Benchmade suits me.
I'm on Vaca this week as well. We will be travelling with the kids most of the day, but look forward to hearing from you!

OK, I have the 2 wheels done for the "Darkside" of my truck. Verdict? I really really like it. BUT. The Plastidip is not going to hold up. Maybe others will have a better experience, since they are better painters, but I can tell you it's not tough enough for wheels. I had to repaint one wheel because it has something on it that keeps putting bubbles in the paint. I cleaned the crap outta these wheels before painting with alcohol, and it still showed through the second time. Oh well, I knew I was a horrible painter before I took this road, and it peels off really really easy (which is why it won't last IMO). My 3 year old had a blast helping me "strip" the wheel. The wheels aren't perfect in person, and I am rather anal... so now I have a problem. Here's the deal:
I contacted a local powdercoat shop that quoted me 90-130 per wheel depending on the prep they need to do. The woman said they media blast, or chemically strip the wheels to start with a clean surface. That makes it worst case scenario $520 + the cost of tire mounting, dismounting, and rebalancing whatever that may be. Say...$650?
Add to that the aggravation of 14 days estimated turn around time, which I would probably be doing 1 wheel at a time...driving around with 1 black wheel.....2 black wheels HA HA HA, 3 black wheels HA HA HA (too much Sesame Street for me, sorry). That would bug me, but they look really good!

I could go with the ATX Ledge wheels which I figure will be about $1000 (??) once I figure in TPMS sensors, lugs, and all that crap BUT I would get all 4 at once, and I could sell my stock wheels and tires for (?) no clue how much. I figure they are worth enough to make the 2 scenarios more or less equal. Right? Am I way off here? Decisions, decisions..............

I really like the powdercoat wheels! Good choice whichever way you go.

Powdercoat. Fake beadlocks are worse than the stock wheels, imo. With powdercoating, you could get them in almost any color you could imagine... even a color match to your MagGrey.

Rear storage shelf (Made from a Queen sized bed
)
OK, so this ones a little wierd, but it turned out surprisingly nice.
Starts out like this. Wife: "When are you going to take that old IKEA bed to the dump? It's been sitting in the hallway for a month...blah blah blah". Me: "Yes dear." Well, it made it to the back of my truck, and then it turned into a project.
I like the way the 4th Gens have that storage shelf, and I figured I could make something similar with...this.
I started out by hammering the bed apart, and cut it to a width of 58 &1/2" on the table saw. It fits in place very tightly at this width. To shape the ends closest to the back seat, I cut out a cardboard template and traced it to the bedshelf. Then I used a jigsaw to cut it out. The width against the seats is 54". I cut the shelf so the seats could still recline fully.
I Plastidipped the entire thing, because once you discover Plastidip you look for excuses to paint everything...:thumb3:
In order to stop the "bedshelf" from sliding around, I made 2 locating blocks that fit into the storage bins on the wheelwells. I screwed the blocks onto the shelf, and filled the screw holes with epoxy.
Then, I carpeted the center with some cheap carpet I had in the garage. Just spray the shelf and the carpet with 3M spray adhesive, let it sit a few minutes and press the carpet into place. Push it tight against the edges and trim with a sharp blade. Easy!
:wow: Eagle eyes will see that the carpet was 6" too short, and I had to splice it together. I'll get some better carpet when I have a chance and redo it. Relax...
Here it is in the truck! It's nice and light, yet very strong!
