Hi fellow Toyota gear heads.
I have had a misfire for a 3 weeks and I swear it is going to drive me insane.
It happened 1st time while wheeling, I went through a bog (maybe 2.5 feet)- and the engine misfired for about 10 minutes. Check Engine light flashing. Then it went away until the next time I got the truck wet.
Wheeling a month later, (same thing) went through a small river and it began misfiring. Check engine light solid this time.
Ran codes and got an ignitor (or ignitor circut) code P1300. I changed the plugs and wires and cleared the codes. Cranked it and it is still missing, check engine came back on 2 days later.
Went to Toyota and they said the codes are usually very acurate so I should change the ignitor. I swapped one with my buddies 4 runner and it made no difference.
I brought it to a shop who checked the compression (it was excellent), and the injectors and no luck there.
I thought it could be the coil packs, but Toyota said I would have a more specific code (ex. cylinder 3 and 5 or ignition coil)
So I have not driven it or wheeled since then (I do not want to burn up the cats). I have a few dollars to spend, but I really could use some help here.
Does anyone have any ideas? Or even suggestion of a good shop in North NJ?
Again, I'm really getting desperate I looked for a year to find the perfect t4r and now I can believe its been so long since I drove it.
166k, new timing belt, new alternator, starter, plugs, wires, ignitor, water pump, radiator
