Hi everyone
my 04 v8 muffler is finally about to give. its rattling and making all kinds of noise. I've been told to replace both muffler and tail pipe. I recently got a check engine code as well with it so hopefully I didn't damage anything by not changing it on time.
I was quoted around 550 dollars to replace it with aftermarket, but I haven't seen any reviews of any good aftermarket muffler and tail pipes that don't rust out in 2-3 years
not including misc parts, an oem muffler is 600 dollars for just parts . I think I labor will be around 200-300 bucks. a walker muffler system seems to be about 300 dollars. Is it worth the chance to go with a walker muffler despite the fact they will probably rust out in 2-4 years or just stick with the oem muffler and hope for the best. Seems like the cost difference will be 300-350 dollars. I'm just wondering if there is an oem equivalent that is worth it?
side note: at this point I've been putting off keeping or not keeping the car. Ideally would like to get 2-3 more years out of it. I put in a boat load of money replacing calipers and timing belt 2 years ago. I know new shocks and struts are in the future of this car as well as new tires. wouldn't be surprised if exaust manifold are leaking but I can't tell because of the muffler leak. Its about to money pit that i don't really want to deal with. If I get 5-7.5k for the car (115k miles new belts, fluids, calipers, rotors pads etc) I would just buy a new car and be done with this car.
