Any difference going from 265/65/17-265/70/17

[2005 SPT V6]

On my stock height height T4R. Will I notice a loss in lowend power and will the speedo be noticably off. I'm replacing the stock dunlops for a set of Michelins LTX A/S that I'm getting for free with less than 100 miles on them. There off of my friends new Dodge Ram Cummins. I checked Tirerack for the specs on the Dunlops and Michelins. Dunlop(265/65/17)=30.6in./Michelins 265/70/17=31.4in.

I just ordered my 70 series tires, but I have seen other members post up a slight loss of power an MPG... but thats really just physics. Some members said they cannot tell a difference. If there is a power loss its minimal and could be made back with a cat back exhaust. Thats what I plan to do!

I haven't noticed any power loss or change in MPH. There was a slight drop in MPG-not enough to be concerned about. The larger tires will give you 1/2 to 3/4 inch of more clearance and make the truck look better.

It's mostly psychological. The difference is so small that you won't feel the difference. MPG fluctuates and you may or may not be able to contribute it to the tires.

That said, I went to 70 series (Revos) and my speedo is off by less than 1mph at 60 (according to my gps). I've noticed no difference in gas mileage and the ride is great.

Get the tires and don't worry about it.

Just realized that the tires I'm getting has a Load rating E. Would these be too stiff for the T4R?

I was just going to tell you that it's a E load...

if it's from a Cummins diesel. 10 ply tire and weights in about 50 pounds compared to about 38 pounds for the stock trires. That's a lot of weight bouncing back and forth on the suspensi9on.

I had posted my question on E load tires since any 265/70/17 in LT comes in E load; Toyo and Revo--in fall, and only BFG AT KO can be had in LT C range. As Thai has posted before, E load = more unsprung weight, less gas mileage, more wear nad tear on the suspension. The ideal is probably a C and no greater than D at the most.

The Michelin A/S E is really for heavy one ton diesel applications. Strong stiff sidewalss and not much on the traction and cornering--they're made and almost exclusively used on work trucks...I think you would suffer some handling and performance with teh A/S tires.

Yes, as it would with load C or D. Each jump has a fairly subtle effect, but by the time you've gone up three levels to load E, the effect will be very noticeable.

I will not run them. Just have to wait till the Dunlops are worn.
