I am looking for some new tires and really like what hear about the BF Goodrich KM2. As I do use my 4 runner to ski we do go thru some deep snow, ice and I have a long climb up to our ski area whereas the roads are pretty bad. Discount tire recommended the DuraTrac for the snow part. We also like to 4 wheel rocks in AZ, Utah and Colorado. Thanks for your input!

Everybody in Utah likes the KM2s or MTRs with Kevlar. Duratracs are great in the snow but have weak sidewalls that gash easy on the trail.

between those that have been mentioned, Duratracs make a better highway (obivously there are better highway tires than these though) The are the best in snow. But the others are better offroad, duratrac is more of an AT the way it performs offroad.
I live up in angel fire 3 months a year and I would not want anything besides the duratrac.

I would recommend a set of Duratracs anyway! I've had mine for about a year now and I love them. Great in snow, decent in rain and love them off the pavement! They're not real loud like most of the MT's so that's a plus too. Duratracs offer the best of both worlds.

Is this actually true or just rumor?
I keep hearing this but I have yet to see someone that has them talk about their experiences.

I'm sure this is true. All BFG (AT & MT) have a 3 ply sidewall. Most other tires only have a 2 ply sidewall.
The fragile sidewalls on the DTs seems to come a lot. I'm guessing that they aren't prone to more failures than other 2 ply sidewall tires.

I went with the GYDT from my BFG AT's.
I have to say, I like how they drive. Quiet on the highway, great in snow, great in rain. And they look burly.

I blew the sidewall out of one, but it was my fault, not the tire's. It would have ripped open any LT tire.

I am actually one of the people that had a sidewall puncture while wheeling on my Duratracs. Not even a big stick but it was pointy. Patched it and made it home to replace it with a new one.
The Duratracs are excellent in the snow and I probably will get another set when these wear down. They do good for the type of wheeling I have been doing.
Yet I am always up to try another tire and the KM2s are at the top of the list.

Sorry, just saw this. I haven't run them, so all I've got is heresy, but I've seen several guys on my local board report trouble with the Duratracs sidewall.
I wouldn't hesitate to use them in place of any other AT, but I keep seeing them mentioned in the same sentence as MT tires and I don't think they're in that class.

I have 7,000 miles on my Duratrac's and they have performed magnificently so far. Quieter than most tires of this caliper and have excellent traction. As far as weaker sidewalls...I can't really say, but if this is a concern,you should order the "E" rated set. Along with stronger sidewalls you also get a true black wall tire. No need to flip the white raised lettering toward the inner wheel well.
