National Guard drill wasn't considered "essential" in my state, so no drill this weekend!

I'm so sorry to all of you guys that are having to deal with this. I hope you are all in good financial position so that this has minimal impact. Anyways, I hope this all gets resolved quickly.

Same here, with a twist. Because I'm in law enforcement, I'm considered "essential" and have to be at work in order to "secure" our facility (???). But I can't actually do my primary job, which is to investigate crimes. I also can't use my government computer or phone (I'm using my personal Macbook, now). I just have to sit here, about as useful as a screen door on a submarine.
Oh, and I'm also technically in a "furlough status," which means I'm not getting paid. I actually would have rather been furloughed - then I'd be free to do whatever I want.
I feel worse for the government contractors (I should get paid, eventually; many of them won't) and the businesses which depend on government employees for revenue, like hotels and restaurants.
Hopefully it will all be over soon.

I know the feeling, Randy- I'm working too. I worked during the last shut down as well, back in 95'. I gotta find a job where I'm not essential...
As for the fallout for other people, I completely agree. The money hotels, restaurants, tourist-type places are losing due to the shutdown is going to hurt them should this drag on more than two weeks.
I don't think people realize how many businesses, towns and places count on revenue from visitors to National Parks specifically. I
