I Did some research online through the different manufactures and can't seem to find a definitive answer on a mobile unit that can be used to use as a regular transceiver on a daily basis and occasionally set to receive the 220-400 Mhz MilAir band.
Now before all of you scream to "go get a scanner". I have thought of that as well but with the current situation of our local PD/EMS possibly flipping the switch to P25II encryption anytime, buying a scanner right now could potentially be a waste of money. :ybrick: Eventually I will get a scanner but I will wait till the technology catches up to the local requirements
Hence my search for a good Ham that I can occasionally scan Airband and Milair band for fun. I have a surplus Satcom antenna as well so signal acquisition shouldn't be an issue (I think).
So far my best guess is the Yaesu FTM-400DR but I have heard mix response on whether or not it can cover the band I am looking for. Their website states Gen1 models can do it but no one has confirmed so far if it can do it or not.
Any help would be great.
