Any Interest in Custom Front Bumpers?

So I have 6 weeks off of school for winter break, and after building a new front bumper for my truck, I thought Id see if anyone would be interested in buying one. Im open to styles and designs, just kinda want to see if anyone is interested before drawing out a design and all that. Price wise, my guess is somewhere around $800 plus shipping. And the turnaround would be pretty quick. Somewhere around a week from ordering to shipping it out.

Let me know if you're interested below, and if so what kind of bumper you would want (tube style, plate style, hybrid etc).

I'm currently waiting on a Shrockworks bumper from the group buy but if you ever feel so inclined to build roof racks for a decent price I'll be in for that. Even a rear bumper. I envy you guys with the tools and the talent to build this kind of shit.

Thanks man, appreciate it. And I did build a full length rack for my truck so that is a possibility. And a rear bumper is definitely a possibility as well. I just wanted to see what everyone would be interested in, so I dont just go out and build ten bumpers and be stuck with them.

Whitson Metal Works already brought a great rack to the market for a much cheaper price than Gobi or BajaRack.

Yeah I saw that, definitely the way to go. But I was wondering how much powder coating would add to the cost? From what I've read for someone around me to do it is pretty pricey and would end up costing the same as one of those other racks mentioned.......correct me if I am wrong though.

Powder coated it still is a few hundred less than Perkins or Gobi. Ends of being similar price to BajaRack. The whitson is a lot lower profil than my BajaRack which is nice.

How much would a rear cost with a removable TC? is that possible? Sorta like the modular CBI - I want something that follows the fender lines and doesn't look clunky

Its kinda hard to say since I havent built a rear one myself yet. Ill do some measurements tomorrow and I can get a rough estimate and get back to you if you want. I had one designed out of cardboard awhile back that was sort of a mix of the CBI and the Crozfab's bumpers, Ill see if I can dig it up and turn them into real drawings

Heres what I have so far for a front bumper
Similar mounting to shrockworks, and has a winch carrier. Will also have fog light holes optional and turn signals for 03-05 4runners that dont have them in the headlights.

And sounds good, Ill start working on a better drawing. Only thing Im not sure of is I want to chop the rear end of the frame off to get a better departure angle. Im sure some will be willing to do that and others, no way. Hmm...

Front bumper looks really good. Definitely interested to see the rear bumper design. I, for one, would be fine with chopping the rear. An integrated tow or bolt on tow hitch would be appealing as well. To me, adding a steel rear bumper that doesn't improve the departure angle somewhat defeats the purpose given the huge a$$ these 4Runners have. That being said, I do understand folk's apprehensions towards frame cutting.

Seems like that's a less ideal place than on the front like most since that's a vulnerable approach area and protects the lower radiator. Also, would you be able to access the winch from underneath like that?

My thought would be airflow to the radiator. Many of the current offerings don't provide much lower airflow to the radiator. After having this issue with my LandRover I was hesitant to add an aftermarket bumper on my 4runner.

Yes the bumper will have a reciever hitch and shackle mounts for D-rings, or at least have the option. As for the rear cutting, I think Ill have to design it to cut the rear frame. I dont even see a way to not make it stick out further than stock without that, and have it be strong enough.

The holes are there for air flow to the radiator, but now that you mention it, it does make more sense to move them up. Ill probably move the two smaller triangles to the top, and maybe just get rid of the larger center hole altogether. That would also allow better winch access, as it could be reached from the bottom, but would be a little awkward.

Do you have a cnc that your going to cut them out with or are you doing them with a plasma?

It would be all 3/16" plate so strength shouldnt be too much of an issue. But stronger is always better. As far as cutting, Im not 100% sure yet. I was about to pull the trigger on a plasma, but I just realized my compressor might not be able to keep up. There is a local metal shop that does laser cutting, but I think it might be too expensive to have them cut that way. Ill have to give them a call to figure it out.

Yes, the plans are coming, been super busy with holiday things. Should have a rough drawing up by tomorrow and then Ill start trying to draw it on the computer as well as model it with cardboard to make sure it will all work on the truck. I also want to have an adjustable mount, to work with either a body lift or not. Not sure how to pull that off though.
