Any luck with LED Bulbs?

I wanted to replace my Tail lights and turn signals with LED bulbs, but I don't want to replace the whole assembly (Mostly because of the price), so has anyone had any luck with just replacing the bulb? I've read some comments about them not functioning correctly, or getting the "hyperflash" because of the significantly lower voltage.

Any Reccomendations?

Yes, it's fine. If you get the hyperflash just replace the turn signal relay with an EP35 from autozone. Also, your ABS light may come on telling you a taillight is out due to the LEDs.
 
Replacing your bulbs with LED's should pose a problem. Ive done my entire interior, including all dash lights, license plate lights, super bright reverse LEDs, side markers etc.... haven't done the tail lights (brake) but I'm pretty certain they are ok since they are the same bulb as the reverse bulb (if I'm not mistaken). However, the turn signals, you will have to change the little resistor module to handle the LED bulbs due to the pulsing action otherwise you will get that hyper flash. The LEDs require a lot less power therefore it needs the proper restriction for them to work at a moderate flash pace.

Im sure someone else can chime in on what the model of the module is that you will need for the resistor.... I can't remember what it was again, i almost did it but stuck with standard bulbs for the time being after I did the clear lights.

The "module" that you speak of is the turn signal flasher. Pauly Walnuts gave the part number for an electronic flasher that works with LEDs.

The rapid flash is because of lower resistance, not voltage.
 
Definitly don't add a resistor or anything for the turn signal, just get the propper flasher relay. My '00 never had any abs lights comes on when it had led brake/tail lights, but then again the ligt didn't come on the last time the abs engaged (but it comes on during the start up sequence).

As far as cost goes, you get what you pay for. If you get cheap bulbs you get crappy looking bulbs that aren't very bright nor is there much difference between the tail and brake brightness. I put a set in my Tahoe, they ended up being $25 each but they are very bright and look good. I've had cheap Autozone and other online sets and have been very disappointed.

The ABS light thing was/is weird but I just pulled the bulb from the cluster, problem (semi-) solved.
 
I put LEDs in the reverse, rear turn and 3rd brake. Went cheap and got cheap results for the brakes so still have stock there. I have stock in the front turns because the LEDs won't work in the front. I replaced the relay but since I have LED & halogen I have hyper flash.......
 
I did LEDS and I'm having problems. I did rear brake and turn lights as well as front corner lights. When you apply the brake pedal, the dash lights and corner lights come on too. No clue how to fix it other than returning to halogen.

That is more than likely a bad ground/back feeding issue. I'd replace the bulbs back to halogen one by one until you figure out which one it is exactly and go from there.

I had forgotten reading about all the complications with LED tail light bulbs, and bought a pair. I put them in, started the truck and immediately got the ABS light. At that point I remembered reading about this issue and was kicking myself in the ass for spending $30 on LED bulbs, but I was out of time so I left it alone and went to the bar.

The next morning when I started the truck the ABS light didn't come on, and hasn't since. I have no idea why it went away, because I didn't do anything to correct it.

Does it light when you switch on the ignition?
 
I have LED in the following locations with no issues:
Headlights / Front Corners / Side Blinkers / Rear Brakes / Reverse Lights / Third Brake Light, and front main blinkers converted to switchback LEDs so they are DRLs white and switch to Amber when used as blinkers (these are the only ones I had to put resistors on).
Have not gotten around to doing the rear blinkers yet but would imagine that I just need another pair of resistors and good to go.

All the others have been in for a while running without issue.
