Greetings,
I pulled my old laptop with Windows XP out of the storage unit today to try to install a copy of Techstream I've had laying around for far too long.
Long story short, it's been probably 10 years since I used this laptop. I have no clue what my user password is, or the administrator password for that matter.
I've done a bit of googling to help me out but I'm stumped. I've read online that I can start it in safe mode to access the command prompt to reset the passwords.
So far, I've tried all the common things like holding F8 upon startup to get to the advanced startup black screen so I can start in safe mode or safe mode with Command Prompt. I can physically get to the black screen by pressing F8, and have the option to choose from "Safe Mode", "Safe Mode With Networking", and "Safe Mode With Command Prompt".
The problem is that once I choose any of the 3 "safe mode" options, it does it's little song and dance and always brings me back to the original blue login screen.
It's like it tries to go into safe mode, but then it just kicks back to normal startup and brings me to the login screen - with the usernames that I don't know the passwords to.
I don't have an install disk......that would be way too easy.
Anybody got any suggestions?
