I'm not averse to rum!
Yeah, I ride in Alabama so I'm sure my legs and lungs aren't quite at your level, but I would give it my best shot.
Beautiful part of the country you live in, very jealous.
I was born and raised in Chicago, oddly enough I got into mountain biking there where theres 1 trail system within an hour drive and it's all relatively flat, very smooth and flowy, and at roughly 700 feet above sea level (hence the reason I currently have a 100mm hardtail with 1X10 gearing with a 34 tooth ring up front). I've been in Colorado for almost 2 years and it's a whole different world. Theres like 30 places I can ride within a hour drive... hell as I showed in one of the pics I see my house front single track. I timed it once and it takes abut 40 seconds from my driveway to wheels on dirt single track The elevation takes some getting used to by itself but I never experienced any climb longer than maybe a minute before moving here, now 2 of my favorite most common rides start with about 7 miles of climbing. Nothing is flat here.
We've done the Elephant Rock Century both years we've lived here and it's rough. 100 miles with 6800' of elevation and ALWAYS windy Bike Ride Profile | Elephant Rock Century Ride near Castle Rock | Times and Records | Strava

I got started in cycling about 5 years ago I bought an entry level Gary Fisher - 26" wheels, 3x9 hardtail, square taper cranks, Dart 2 fork, cable disk brakes and I was riding 6 foot wide dirt and wood chip paths at the forest preserves. Next thing you know I'm on a tubeless 29er with Sram X0 drivetrain, hydraulic disc brakes, plus a cyclocross bike for commuting and cyclocross races, plus a full carbon aero triathlon bike with ENVE carbon aero wheels for doing Ironmans, and the wife has 3 bikes as well (mountain bike, crossbike and a carbon triathlon race bike with Zipps).
I'm in the planning process of building a new bike.
Here's the build list so far...
Frame - Devinci Atlas Carbon XL frame
Rear Shock - Monarch RT3 rear shock (comes with the frame)
Fork - Rockshox Pike 140mm
Crank - Raceface Next SL direct mount carbon cranks with 30T single ring
Shifter - Sram X01 11 speed trigger shifter
Cassette - Sram X01 10-42 11 speed
Rear derailleur - Sram X01 11 speed
Tires - WTB Vigilante TCS 29x2.3
Saddle - WTB Pure V
Pedals - Shimano DeoreXT Trail
Brakes - Shimano SLX with Ice Rotors, 180mm front 160mm rear
Seatpost - Maybe fixed for now until my wallet recovers but going to go with a KS LEV dropper post
Wheels are the last big item I need to figure out. I'm kinda leaning towards Sram Rail 50
I'm in the planning process of building a new bike.

I wouldn't call a rigid, two hardtails, a roadie and a mountain tandem (mine) two roadies, a hardtail and a full suspension and another tandem (his) a smattering of kid bikes (um, the kid's) and a marriage because of (and resulting in biking kid) an addiction....would you?
So no, you've got no worries.
Got some dirt in bright and early this morning.
I have an old GoPro vid from riding down one the those trails back to the car. They have rerouted a lot of it slightly to go through more chunky stuff, basically lots of rocky to keep it ridable when wet so it doesn't mud up. It makes me really look forward to building that Devinci.

Your build sounds awesome man. Be sure to post it up once you finish it, I'd really like to see how it turns out.

Sounds like a great build (though I totally get the wallet recovery time necessity)!
I opted to go straight for a BMC TrailFox02. Thoroughly love the bike, even though I'm suffering from some lung-capacity issues (bad accident in 2008 and getting older just ain't for sissies! LOL), so I don't ride up & down like some guys & gals I see.

One of my good friends has worked in the bike industry for years so as a result every part of my build is for parts that I have access to wholesale or prodeal pricing. It'll help a lot but it's still going to add up pretty quick.
Who cares if your not the fastest. I'll never be the fastest or most skilled but you'd be hard pressed to find anyone having more fun doing it.
Is that pic at the Marshall Mesa/Dawdy Draw area?

New to the forum so I thought I'd get involved in the discussion. I live in Knoxville, TN. Currently riding a 2013 Santa Cruz Highball Carbon, fox fork with kashima coating. My drivetrain is a 1x10 full XTR set up and I9 wheels, built in Asheville, NC. I've got the bike weighing in right at 20.5 lbs minus waterbottles. Now that I've got my bike set up perfect I'm gonna start building on my new 2014 LTD 4Runner. I've ridden all over the U.S. and I'm always looking for an excuse to get away from Knoxville.

Welcome to the forum Scott. Nice rig, heard really good things about that one. I had a Blur L/T several years back, and still regret selling it.
