so our timmy the tool man is moving from California to Bend Oregon. So he prob wont be doing any new videos for a while. He doesnt mention his house, just a 1400 sq ft shop with high ceilings for a future lift.
I know he likes mountain biking and back trails for his 4runner and their is plenty of those there ( I used to live not far from there). How lucky the Oregon and especially Bend 4runner people will be.

I didn't expect to see this thread on T4R. Pretty cool.

My wife and I moved from a 1400 sq ft home with a 2 car garage on an 8,000 sq ft lot in busy San Jose, California to a 2400 sq ft home with a 4 car garage and a detached 1400 sq ft shop on a 2.3 acre lot in a very quiet neighborhood in the southeast corner of Bend. It's a rad property with lots mature pine trees, some aspen trees, a little water feature, deck. I feel like I'm at a cabin in the woods. We're super stoked.

The shop doesn't have electrical ran to it, so I'm talking with the power company about running a separate service to the shop. Once I get the electrical ran, I need to get it insulated, sheet rock installed, lighting installed, some type of heating source installed and get a 2-post life installed. The shop has a regular garage height side and very tall side. The tall side is probably 16 feet from the floor to the bottom of the rafters. I'll be able to stand fully erect under a vehicle. I'm also getting a bunch of asphalt installed from the main driveway to the shop because currently the approach to the shop is all dirt and gravel. So, I've got some work to do and money to spend to get it to where I want it.

I've ridden from near Batchelor from Dutchman Flat Sno-Park. I ended up going on trails like Flagline and South Fork. I haven't actually ridden the Batchelor mountain trails yet where you take the lift ride up. I did a hike there recently, though.

Yep - if you know Flagline, you already know the zone I mean! Had some amazing all-day rides in there and was too exhuasted to hit jumps in the Phil's complex by the time we got there. I think Elk birthing closes big parts of it during the Mid-Summer though.The actual ski mountain is so-so unless you are on a full-on DH rig and around 25 years old. LOL I'm wayyyyy past it but I still try. OK - Back to Yota chat.....

I drove through Bend a few weeks ago, I wasn't expecting anything but thought it was a really cool place. I came from the Cascade Lakes scenic byway, and hiked up Tumalo mountain across from Bachelor. I camped in a snow park nearby. Just wish I had more time to explore the lava flows and general area. I was impressed with all the old Toyotas in Bend.

Congrats Timmy!! Sounds like your plan is set, but word of advice and you may already know this, don't limit yourself on Juice. 200 amp service minimum. Amp load stacks up quick when discussing shop machinery. I just installed a 200 amp on 2000 sq foot shop. Waiting on Florida Power and Light to hook me up next week.
But, I'm now wondering if I have enough lol. Also, the biggest mistake I made was I bought a bunch of Siemens equipment, and now I'm hearing about past issues with their circuit breakers. GE or Square D equipment has always been solid iirc.

Bend is yet another place that used to be great but the population quintupled in 30 years and is still exploding so its just another formerly nice place that will never be the same. That being said, good luck to Timmy and hope to see some more helpful videos.

Nice place in Bend! I'm about 4 hours away and go to Bend / Sunriver every summer. I hope to meet you next year and I plan on doing some projects on my 99 Limited.

Even though I don't know how it was when the population was like 25 thousand, I was here around 16 years ago when it was much lower. Is the town busier? Yeah, it is. But, with more people you get more services. I wonder how many stores and restaurants you could choose from when the town was only 25k compared to where it is now, around 110k.

It's still a very nice town to live in, especially when we compare it to the California Bay Area we came from with millions of people. The comparison is apples and oranges. If I wanted to live in a small town that just had a local gas station, a Dollar Store, and a family diner, I would have moved to one.

There's no way Bend wasn't going to grow bigger. The area has too much to offer, especially outdoor enthusiasts like myself.

"Nice" is dependent on a person's opinion. I guess if you grew up there when the town was like 15k people and you are anti-growth, you would probably hate it. The town is full of transplants like myself who came there to escape the rat race of the big cities they were living in.
