Any Mountain Bikers on Here?

I hope to draw more interest by posting this here instead of the classified section, please pardon me if it gets moved or you guys dont appreciate it here.

I have a 2013 Trek Mamba for sale. I bought it new on April 19, 2014. I rode the bike a total of 5- 6 times and found that I dont have a desire to ride like I thought I would. The bike is in perfect condition. 29er, front and rear disk brakes, rockshox forks, honestly I dont know enough about mountain bikes to list everything about it. I paid $850 for it and Im asking $600 for it minus shipping. If anyone is interested or knows anyone that would be interested please pass the word or PM me and we can communicate via email, I can send more pics of any request via email also. I keep the bike in the back of my 4runner at all times so it has never been sitting in the weather.

The wife and I are buying bikes this christmas, want to get into the sport an dget out more especially now that we have the 4runner. I have been looking and pricing for about a year and will likely wait till after xmas sales to buy.

Figured I would throw it out there and ask of any onesopinions on rides or setups, or if anyone near NC or in NC has something for sale used...just curious. PM me if you do otherwise any opinions are welcome. I like to hear what others think about their bikes.

It all depends on what type of riding you plan on doing and what you type of trails you have. You'd be better off going to regional forums on MTBR or looking up your local mountain bike advocacy group and getting opinions of the locals.

Not sure what type of setup would be best for ya'll but you may want to check craigslist for any used bikes. I too planned on buying new but a lot of people suggested looking for a good used one and luckily enough I found one for a great price. Best of luck!

Love the Ergon grips. Just recently got a pair of GE1's for my Giant. Great improvement over stock.

Yeah I've been running Ergon grips for years, I like larger lock on grips with the palm platform. My knuckles always ached real bad after longer rides with small grips. Ergon grips and WTB Pure V saddle are the 2 fit related items I always run.

So a question: I am converting my favorite bike to a 1X10 as soon as all the parts come in. I ride a lot but am more concerned about reliability than speed or weight savings. I am going with:
Raceface front ring
SRAM X7 rear and shifter
WTB Laserdisc Trail 32 hole rim.
XT Rear Hub.

My question is this: Anyone ran a WTB rim of this type before? I know the other components are bulletproof but right now the rear rim is my challenge. Yes, I know I could drop a grand on a Crank Bros rear rim but hey, I am 52 years old, 6'4" and 250 lb. Not really looking to shave grams here but I ride over a thousand miles of trails every season so looking for durability and reliability. I hate breaking spokes. Yes, I could lose 50 lbs (been this weight for 30 years though) but then I would have to give up drinking beer and eating pizza and since I have to draw the line somewhere I'll go with a better rear rim and keep on eating.

Parts. I will build the wheel and then after I am done I will take it to the LBS to have it taken back apart and built right just like many things. I have done it so many times we have a standing joke. Going to use XT hub though. BTW I am going backwards. I have had a Trek single speed for three years that I ride a lot. I have put a nice Fox front fork on it and a few other personal touches (bars, crank etc) to get it perfect for me. I was going to buy a Stache8 from Trek but then I wouldn't ever ride the single speed again, so since it's snowing I decided I would just convert my one gear to 10 gears. The frame has all the brackets and stays for a geared bike so that is no issue.

He GE1's don't have the platform and are more for mountain bikes and the constant hand repositioning. Don't know how they are for really big hands though.

Just did a 10.5 miles night ride last night. Was my 2nd time riding with the head lamp. I will probably invest in a lamp for the handle bars as well. It was a great night and a fun ride.

I just moved all my bike racks over from my old Subaru to my new 4runner. I got the Yakima railgrab kit 25% off on black Friday with 55" bars. My old fairing didn't work as it was too wide so I made a new one yesterday.

Those rims you picked should be fine as long you're not trying to downhill on them, especially with some beefy spokes. You could spend a little more and go with the wide Frequency rims or for roughly the same price the ST's are a little burlier.

if you want to go with a prebuilt option Stan's Flow EX wheel with their in house hub is a good value.

That awesome. I see a lot of people buy "first mountain bikes" and end up not liking the sport because they bought a piece of crap that is barely trail capable, those are both very choices for first bikes. With just some basic maintenance you guys should be able to ride those bikes for years pretty trouble free.
