I had my first "crash" on my new bike yesterday while getting a ride in before catching my fight :( I got taken out by a deer. Nobody was out, I had the normally pretty crowded trail to myself. I rounded a fast corner and there was a bunch of deer on the trail, they all got spooked and scattered. One ran straight across the trail and clipped the leading edge of my front tire jerking the wheel to the side. It steered me right off the trail and went down. Luckily it was in a grass section not a rock section, i has hard on the brakes prior to contact so it wasn't a high speed crash, no damage to me or the new bike. Mule Deer is a fitting name for the breed because that one was a jackass!

Wednesday morning means trails to myself

Lol I got taken out by a Turkey once! Rounded a corner and a bunch of them decided to fly right across the trail. One hit me in the shoulder which caused me to veer off the trail. By the time I "crashed" I was going really slow as I was on the brake hard. Sort of just fell over, all the while wondering "WTF?" My buddy behind me was laughing pretty hard.
Speaking of critters: Saw two black snakes (one about four foot laying across the trail) and a copperhead (on the rocks beside the trail) out sunning themselves yesterday. Temps in the 70's. Be careful out there!

We don't have copperheads or water moccasins out here, just rattlers. I do miss black snakes over the bull snakes (both non poisonous) since at speed its harder to tell the rattlers and bull snakes apart.

Headed to Moab and fruita Friday to camp and bike, not to gloat or anything. :bluejump:

It just will not stop raining here, I haven't seen the sun since last weekend.
Did a high school MTB league fundraiser ride on forest service roads yesterday, and it was a mess. Hoping things dry out some next week so I can hit some singletrack.

Got in a ride today with my wife

Hike-a-bike from random other riders puts some perspective on how chunky this stuff really is.

I just bought a new Diamondback Hybrid, nothing too crazy around Mordor on the Potomac, but I'm looking forward to hitting the trails around the Potomac River.

Living in Colorado...had to get back into biking. Which meant no longer using my Raleigh M80 from around 2000.

Haven't biked in years so no sick builds from me, but everyone's gotta start somewhere, right?

Today I picked up a 2014 Remedy 7 27.5" from last year's demo fleet. Have been looking hard in hopes of finding that one amazing deal on craigslist, but no luck. With a new bike warranty, I couldn't beat my deal.

First mods will be:
Reflector deletes
Dropper post
2x in the front

Hit me up if you want to go for a ride (once this rain eventually passes)

edit - I'm in Boulder

Any of you guys ever hiked over what you ride and thought "Geez, I must be crazy!"
Hiked down a trail into the gorge last night to remove a rotten bridge and replace it with stone at a small creek crossing. This is a trail I ride almost daily and from a bike seat it looks MUCH different than from your feet lol. I then decided it must be my imagination and will ride it tonight to make sure. That is all.

I am a little jealous of you guys with light weight full suspension bikes. I bought this frame and built it up because I could do it very cheaply with a rigid fork. I wasn't really planning on getting into mountain biking, it was just going to be my general purpose bike that could also handle light trails. However, I really enjoyed the sort of light xc trail riding I was doing so I found the fox fork for super cheap and got a little more into it. I'm not going to spend any more money on mountain bikes for now because I just don't have time for it, but I really like this bike and getting on the trail when I can.

Nice looking bike! I used the demo remedy 7 they have at the local bike shop and liked it a lot

I find I'm relatively lazy when I don't have a specific goal/event/race to train for. Since I'm not doing an Ironman this year I've been looking for another challenge to train for. It's kinda short notice but this morning I signed up for the Firecracker 50. It's a 50 mile mountain bike race at Breckenridge with 6500ish feet of elevation gain at altitudes ranging from 9,000 to 11,000 feet on the 4th of July. The timeline is pushing it closer than I'd like, September-October would be no problem but we'll see what happens. I've got 2 months to prepare.

Good luck with that!
As you get older you will find that riding for two things - 1) Pure enjoyment and 2) Exercise - are far more worthy goals than a race. I used to train to race and now I have much more fun riding the bike to be RIDING THE BIKE! Have fun racing though! I did.
Signed,
Old and Slow in the mountains. #noshameinpushing
